Advise for upgrading

Recently my GPU (MSI 1080TI gaming X) went kaput. Monitor will blank when game is loaded up or midway through gaming, background sound still can be heard though. No issue when doing other stuffs like surfing etc. Dont intend to change the whole rig so probably will change my just my GPU to 3070Ti and my CPU to 2nd hand 8700K, enough to last a few more years?
Current rig : 8500K Z370mb + 16G RAM + 750w PSU on 34 ultrawide 1440p monitor

Check the temperature first. Likely if you still can hear sound. Sounds like the thermal paste could have dried up and overheating occurs.

The temp did actually increased recently. Was gaming ow at 72/73 but recent months has been at 80/81. Let me repaste thermal and see if it fixes the problem. Thank you for the advise.

Oh then definitely that is something you should take a look at. Best just repaste it first..

Not just thermal paste , you need to get some replacement thermal pads(0.5mm and 1mm versions depending on the layout) for the VRM as some will tear once you remove the heatsink... Of course isopropyl alcohol to remove the gunk.

Excuse me, I'm not familiar with Intel CPUs, more of an AMD guy, but is there a 8500K? I'd thought there was only the 8500 (non-K), and 8600K.

Which motherboard is that? FYI for that generation of CPUs, motherboard
does support resizable bar with a BIOS update.

To isolate and confirm if it is a graphic card issue, have you tried uninstall the graphic card
than install latest graphic card driver?
Usually faulty graphic card during driver installation will either black screen or hang.

Do disconnect the internet before updating/uninstall the graphic card driver as Windows
will install the graphic card driver thus may conflict with the installation process.

Excuse me, I'm not familiar with Intel CPUs, more of an AMD guy, but is there a 8500K? I'd thought there was only the 8500 (non-K), and 8600K.

MB is MSI Z370 gaming pro carbon. Did try to update to new driver (clean installation), problem still persist.

If during driver installation it black screen/hang that means the graphic card is gone.
Before you upgrade the graphic card do update the BIOS, indeed that motherboard
has a BIOS with support resizable bar.

Yes. That would likely be the case. At least i can tell my other half that i have tried to fix the card, now i can purchase new card without any nagging. 3070ti or 4070ti? 4070ti is 1 x 16pin right? They will come with a adapter right?

How is the thermal pad? Dried? Broken?

I did not touch the pads so not sure if they are dry but they aint broken.

Can you play 2D games? Or other games? Try to test the graphic card using the graphic card utilities.

Other games the same thing. When i try to do a stress test using furmark, same thing happens.

Haiz, dont intend to fix liao. Thinking of changing to 4070Ti. Saw that it require a 16pin? Will there be a adapter for 2 x 8 into 16 pin?

DDU remove all drivers and clean install drivers. Other than that, check your display settings, monitor and profile in case it's setting itself to out of freq range. PSU might also be a problem, old or faulty, if suddenly not able to provide enough power to the gpu (Which you also need to keep in mind when upgrading and still fails to run...).

There is but take note not sure what power supply you are using.
It is recommend to change to at least 850 watt for RTX 4000 series.
