advise needed for first time PC build

Hi all

currently i am looking into buying a new DIY pc as my current one is already10years old and abit ki siao here and dere... I have a rough idea for the new PC build. Need someone to help me see if this is ok... also recommendation for which shop to go to in sim lim...

Build as followings
- intel I5-8400
- Asus prime H370 plus/csm
- cosair veng LPX 2666MhZ (2 x 8Gb)
- WD blue 250Gb M.2
- Asus GTX 1050TI phoenix
- coolermaster MWE 550W 80+ gold
- fractal design mystify C

total add up to SGD1344 which in within my budget of 1300+-

i use the PC for light gaming and mutiple tasking. Can someone help me see if this build is ok or any fine tuning is required. TIA

Depending on your definition of light gaming, I would propose pushing the graphics to at least GTX 1060 Ti instead. The rest of it looks pretty good for an average spec-ed PC.

As for PC shops at SLS, I personally go to Video-Pro and Fuwell.

i won't be able to help you see if the specs is good or not as i'm not that expert myself too.

however for price, compare price with lazada/shopee/qoo10 (that's what i did) with simlim price. sometimes with good discount period, you can save around 200 (that was for me, not including CC rebates yet) buying online compare to simlim if you wanna build it yourself. i don't think u are able to save 200 by paying cash in simlim cause they help u build and troubleshoot/stress test.

I think my reply too late to help you liao, but in case you did end up dragging your purchase and haven't buy yet how about changing to a Ryzen build instead? It's more worth it for your money considering you're only doing light gaming so you don't need those 4.6ghz+ from Intel.


CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
Mobo: Any decent B450 mobo
Ram: 3000mhz/3200mhz 2x8GB on your mobo's QVL (qualified vendor list) list - check the list on your mobo's website
Graphic Card: Buy a second-hand GTX 1060 from people exiting eth-mining
SSD: Any m.2 sata ssd for less hassle with cables (you don't need nvme honestly)
PSU: Cheapest 80+ PSU with 5 years warranty you can find
PC Case: Anything you like


Don't have a shop in sim lim square I can recommend you to ... when I was building my own rig I went to sim lim square and quite a few of them try to upsell stuff I don't need or offer customizations that are subpar/bad value for money. Prices are generally not as good as online especially for graphic card, PSU.

I suggest you buy from mix of online + sim lim square for the cheapest parts you can find, then get someone to assemble everything for you (sim lim sq or carousell) for a nominal fee.
