Hello.

Saw a decent deal on amazon for a Seagate 8TB External harddisk for only US$249. thats around S$340 free shipping. Round it off to $360 for bank conversion rate.

$360 can barely buy a 6TB harddisk at simlim. so i think its really quite a good deal.

My question is.. as harddisk are really sensitive to shock. what do u guys think about amazon's shipping? i scared dead on arrival.

I doubt so. They may not entertain overseas purchase so you might have to send to US Seagate? Not too sure, best to email Seagate SG and ask.

I recall reading here and there that some ppl have sent in amazon units before, no issues. I got a 4tb backup plus last year, arrived fine.

Plus this reply from Seagate SG, dunno if their policies have changed since then. Hope not.

I was in kinda the same boat recently, and I emailed Seagate and their support says warranty is worldwide.

Their reply:

Thank you for contacting Seagate Support.

You do get Seagate support wherever you are located and wherever you purchase the drive from. Our Asia Pacific support center is in Singapore too.

For additional assistance, feel free to contact us at: Technical Support | Seagate

Not sure about the other brands. Good thing about Seagate, here in SG at least, is that they handle RMAs directly. For WD, I believe you have to go through distributor.

In the end I ended up buying locally. The price difference is not enough to make up for the wait.

Yes. I specifically asked if Amazon bought can be RMAed locally and the CSO said can.

Seagate HDD confirm can RMA locally, check their warranty validation if you want to be certain.

I bought 2x 5TB before, both arrived safely. take note that the drive can get hot, over 50C when I transferred >1TB of data, it hit 55C! if solely for backup purpose, this is not an issue but not for everyday uses. I did take out the HDD and place on HDD cage with active cooling, the drive only max at 40C after cloning 3TB of data.
