Haha i cant combine the PC because one is at home and the other is in the office. Actually im doing this for my boss. So definitely needs to separate it.

As for game wise, what i know is he plays FPS games like Call of Duty, Action games like Assasin Creed and MMORPG like Diablo 3. L4d3 next time? lol
He just wanna me to find something that can run some of the latest games smoothly and last him abt 3 to 4 years.

Autocad hes intending to get the latest one. which is 2016 i supposed? I dont mind switching the budget around to achieve this.

But AutoCAD for 1k and hoping to be smooth is hardly possbile unless he dun mind been under cut a lot for the CPU and GPU...

For the games he playing maybe can go with 1.8k and the remaining for office pc...

Edit; just checking is your company a heavy user on AutoCAD? Or just do it when there is a new project?

Autocad does not require much GPU power. Just a simple locked i5/i7 will do the job and get an AMD card for OpenCL acceleration. Shld be able to achieve under $1k if the parts are chosen carefully.

Well, office usage quite heavy on autocad as the drafter will be using it full time. Some usage on MS office and other software that doesnt really requires gpu tho. So thats why i mention autocad because i think thats the most demanding software in terms of performance.

But almost every time see those they recommend PC are like those power workstations (Xeon or i7 chips). GPU I have not keep track much, but same thing they also recommend firepro and quadro...

Yes I have work with a i5 sandy bridge with AMD GPU on AutoCAD 2012. works quite OK. But still quite slow...(ya probably it's my CPU that sucks)

I will try for the AutoCAD build:

CPU+MB: Intel i5-6400 + MSI H110i Pro AC - $394
RAM: Kingston 2133MHz 8GB DDR4 - $47
GPU: Leadtek Quadro K420 2GB - $248
SSD: OCZ 240GB Trion - $98
Casing: Thermaltake Core V1 - $79
PSU: FSP HEXA 450W - $59

Total: $925 (prices referenced from PCThemes pricelist)

This excludes monitor, cd drive, OS and mouse/keyboard.

if he have wired route around his hse, maybe get a mobo w/o wifi.

For autocad.. get a better CPU that you can afford.
For RAM at least 16gb RAM.
And dont forget to get yourself a HDD for your storage.

Yup, i know wired is the way to gaming. However, i would still prefer to have a wifi enabled mobo as a secondary connection just in case.

As for Autocad, it is entry level autocad usage, not much of a 3D model and stuff.
So do you think the rig recommended is sufficient? Noted on the ram and HDD.

I would go for i5-6500 at least, for more higher clock speed.
