Hi Techies,

I need some advise on a rig which I will be looking to build a system for gaming in a couple of weeks. My budget is around $2k without monitor, speaker, keyboard and mouse.

This is what I have come up with so far.

i5-4690
Asus Maximus VII Impact ITX...657
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD SATA3 (5Yrs)..179
Kingston HyperX Savage 1600MHz CL9 16GB...225
Corsair 250D Case MITX...139
Seasonic X Series 650W Modular Gold PSU...169
MSI GTX970 4GB Gaming GDDR5...........589
Corsair H80i GT Hydro Cooling Performance...158

Total: 2116

I am planning to re-use my optical drive as well as WD Black HDD.

Also I might not be performing any overclocking, is there any parts that I can save money on?

Thank you very much.

Get your gfx from rakuten, use code RTCITI12 for12% off and pay by mastercard for another 5%off. Just got the same one today morning for 492. Can use shopback from 5% rebates too

Where are your prices from bro?

Anyway my 2 cents for gaming,
- an i5-4460 is enough
- 8GB ram is enough
- don't need a AIO CPU cooler if you are not overclocking, if u care about aesthetics and dont want to use the stock cooler, just look at cheaper nicer looking aftermarket cooler

Changing the above should bring ur cost under $2k based on ur numbers...

Hi Bros,

Appreciate the online offers but I would prefer getting everything from SLS if possible. I am getting my prices from Fuwell.

So 8GB of RAM is sufficient for gaming? Will 16GB of RAM yield any benefits outside gaming scenarios?

Thanks!

Sayang, you said you may not be performing OC

but your chip also not K chip, overclock what :s13:

and if not OC'ing why hoot Maximus VII Impact? Can get a cheaper ITX board if you want ITX form factor.

Hi avsquare,

You are making sense though. Perhaps it is not ideal to waste $ on aesthetics. From the latest list, could you suggest what I can replace further?

Thank you very much.

Can go for gigabyte H97-N. Cheaper. Asus charge a premium for their boards.

Sent from Voyager using GAGT

TBH I won't say that. As a guy I can understand that if possible, we want our rigs to look stylish too.

Let's put it this way. you have to first measure what is the list of items that would fufill your basic needs. Then check against your budget to see how much leftover. Then you can talk about aesthetics with them and satisfy your wants.

If you are not overclocking and going with the 4690 chip then you should get a H series board instead.

Asus H97I-Plus + i5-4690 @ $425

PSU you don't need a 650W. Go for the Superflower Leadex Gold 550w @ $119

Cut down another $100.

This code always valid or limited time use? Can use for other brand gfx card or not?

To be honest, its ok to pay for aesthetics if u have a windowed casing and the budget (which in this case i think u have sufficient budget given what your looking for).

Anyway consider getting your full rig from PCthemes if u asking them to do installation,

i5-4460+H97I-Plus ITX - 439
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - 179
Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz CL10 8GB - 109
Corsair 250D - 139
Superflower Leadex 550W Gold - 129
MSI GTX970 4GB Gaming - 579
Corsair H80i GT - 152
Total - $1726
Ask for discount since getting full rig from them :)

If you are diy-ing urself, can consider getting full rig from tradepac, they should be able to quote you a lower price then other stores (especially full rig setups).

imho though, if ur diy-ing urself, should really consider getting everything other than CPU+mobo from lazada/rakuten... probably can save another $100-$200... then just head down to get the CPU & mobo (and case fans or other things u might need)

Very nice build. Advice to TS, I recently built my first rig and although it took me many hours, I was immensely satisfied with the result. I bought all my parts online, including the processor. In your case, I see discounts for all parts (except mobo+CPU) on lazada and Rakuten. The leftover money you can get yourself some bling parts like LED fans or LED strips.

Here is the breakdown cost of my rig. I bought 80% of my parts from Amazon and I understand that locally, the warranty isn't valid. But it's a risk I'm willing to take. :o

some cheaper aio to consider-

Deepcool Maelstrom 120k. $60 (buy from Tech Dynamic- call first)
CM Seidon 120v plus- $80
Corsair H60- $90 (both pc themes.)

LED can buy from sim lim tower level 3 (a few shops) if u don't mind diy the strips. only about $8 per metre and much brighter than retail brands. Just strip the wires and cut a molex wire. connect red and black using tape and you're done.
