Wdc sata3 3tb green (reuse)

State more. Your need to let us know what are you using it for. Budget. And need os and monitor?

No point just stating if you aint telling us what you need to use it for.

thanks for the reply.

Budget:
SGD 1.8K

Purpose:
I am using it as a mid tier gaming system. Able to support the recent COD ghost, starcraft II - HOS and etc. I don't need them to run at best graphics spec but at least the default with a few tweaking.

I am also going to use it for programming (2D graphics only) but I don't expect it to encounter any issue on this part.

Last but not least, I am going to use it like a home theater system to watch shows and drama.

Others:
I am going to reuse my OS, Monitor, KB and mouse.

I forgot to state, I was hoping that the system can last for at least 3 years without the need of changing any parts (excluding dmg)

Then you just need an i5 not an i7. I7 is more for rendering and video editings.

An i5 is more than enough for gaming. I7 wont give you much fps 10 or 15 only. The real performer is the gfx card.

Lastly stop playing games at med or high settings. Go max settings to enjoy it. Plus you already have a home theatre like I do. Its a waste if you dont get a good graphics card.

Drop the asus branding. It aint gonna come cheap.

Msi b85m g43 + i5 - 4570 ~ $ 356
Gskills ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit ~ $100
Plextor m5p 128gb ~ $ 149
MSi gtx760 2gb twin frozr + seasonic m12ii 620w ~ $ 499
Fractal design r4 ~ $159

Total cost $1263. Buy at tradepac. Diy.

I think getting a h87m plus with a i5 4670 and change your GPU to a gtx760 would be better. You won't have any problem with a 500w power supply with your current build unless you plan to upgrade in the future (SLI/xFire).

you don't need i7 or 16GB for games. You can cut them down and use those 'saved' $$ on your Graphics. Get at least a Nvidia GTX 760 2GB.

You may want to buy a new harddisk if your harddisk is more than 3 years old.
Still can reuse your Secondary harddisk(non-OS harddisk)

I read that the mobo (MSI H87M-G43) can do raid. does anyone have an idea on how to raid it?

I would like to "raid 1" my WDC 3TB green. but leaving my ssd and 1.5TB black alone.
What additional items I require?

One info for TS only. Remember k series CPU is more for OC. So remember to buy mobo and cpu that either both are OCable or no OCable. asus z87 is more towards OC board but 4770 is not an OC chip. Although 4770 could be OC but will not be as good as k series.

Only worth if you need the speed. If pure storage maybe not.
I'm raiding my HDD to record my gameplay @ high reso/settings. (RAID 0)

Or if for storage, 2 HDD but only 1 capacity. Something like cloning your HDD and when either HDD spoil, the other HDD will still have the data.
(RAID 1)

I using it for storage mainly. So if i got 3 x 1TB HDD, i raid them and if 1 x 1TB HHD is down, all the files will still be in my 2xHHD ???

I read a few bad reviews on this board on Newegg :( How is yours faring?

I might change my config to MSI B85M-G43-Gaming but I read that MSI B85M-G43-Gaming does not have raid support even though MSI website stated it.

Sigh, I am lost.

B85 series does not support RAID, only H87 and Z87 do support RAID... They must have put up the wrong info...

B85 boards do not have RAID support.

If you really need RAID then you can look at H87 boards instead.

Ask yourself do you really need RAID? And what is your purpose that you need RAID for?
