A guy asked me about his son's prospect of being an undergrad in Aeronautical Engineering.
He said his concern was triggered by Warren Buffett unloading all his Airline holdings even at a tremendous loss. A sign that the airline industry has no future in the short to medium term.

Wonder if it is as bad as the hospitality industry.

The aviation industry in SG isnt big... Dun see many good prospects in it... Mostly its jus MRO companies....


Unless his Son wants to become a Licensed Aircraft Engineer(LAE), he can try applying after he finishes poly....

Trust me, coming from a fresh grad with degree in aerospace, many co want you to have exp in certain areas before they hire u...

I have friends who grad years before this covid-19 crisis in this degree, couldnt find jobs in the aviation industry... In the end they moved to other industries like banking, transportation etc.... Even those with relevant exp n skills in it find it hard to get promotion...

Right nw with this Covid-19 crisis, getting job in aviation industry would b even tougher....

I'd rather he study something else like Computer Sci or data analytics/data sci.... Or even mechanical engineering....

A degree that allows him to work in most industries... Tell his son dun limit himself to a certain industry...

I wouldn’t join the aviation industry if I could remind back the clock. This is a sunset industry with little rewards, relatively long working hours (depends where you are), and if you are in the engineering side of things, constantly beset and kept on toe by potential aircraft operational issues, and worst of all, this is a highly volatile industry which is first in last out, meaning it is one of the first to be affected during a downtown and the last to reap the benefits of an upturn

It is ok to get an aeronautical degree or aerospace degree. Use it as a foundation for good and structured problem solving skills and thought process, and apply your skill set in the right industry upon graduating

Speaking from 12 plus years in aviation. Honest opinion which I will tell my children next time too. It is very important to enter the correct industry after graduation
