Any idea how aftershock is able to offer a lower price for similar builds compared to diy-ing yourself at simlim?

Computer manufacturers small or big get a better deal buying in bulk and by contract at a fixed price for a period of time. They may even hedge their position for components like memory that fluctuates in value. As compare to you and me buying, we are at the mercy of market forces/ store markups that drive component prices up.

The only reason is GPU and RAM price due to shortage in the DIY market. That's all.

the Bulk option means

Does Aftershock usually have sales/promo during ITSHOW?

Was looking at HWZ's preview of the show and didnt see aftershock, so not sure if i should go ahead and buy the desktop or wait for the show.

I feel that even if aftershock is cheaper, you should consider at least building your own computer at least once. It really is an eye opener, and you learn a new skill.

Definitely an eye opener if you spoil a $3000 rig

In my early days i wrecked 2x $3000 rigs before i learnt to properly do everything correctly
Thankfully my parents did not hit the ban button on my computing days otherwise i will not be here.

Building rigs is not for every ( similar as to why i don't install my own ceiling fans in my flat, even though i DIY the entire wardrobe cabinet sections ).

IF one is a newbie, it is better for one to pay the extra charges manufacturers / builders demand so at least they have someone to fall back on. And that someone should be able to deal with a motherboard socket bent pin problem AND provide timely KNOWLEDGEABLE support.

OF course, it is entirely a different matter if one chooses so submerge the pc ina lake full of coffee, or let it drop if the pc is perched precariously on a ridge, much like a raven.....

Wait IT Show. Usually the promo have free upgrades on SSD and some other services like better thermal compound or whatever from Aftershock which will be added for free for you.

But do look out for Dreamcore too. They are super competitive with Aftershock. They might have offers as well to compete. Plus, the components used by Dreamcore is nicer imo. Do check them out.

This is a strange advise. Why pay more to DIY? And not to mention, Aftershock provides after sales on site warranty despite being cheaper. If one have problem fixing a computer, how do you expect them to troubleshoot on their own?

hmm I got my PC from aftershock last year however I sold it away this year . from my pov

AFTERSHOCK
Pro:
Aftershock can troubleshoot problems /change parts for you / free thermal paste compund (?) / Anti Virus CD as a gift

Cons:
2 years warranty ( 1year onsite if im not wrong) after the warranty im not sure


DIY PC
Pro:
Learning the process of building it / Customizing your own (eg. RGB specs / White Theme specs)
Longer warranty for individual items

Cons:
Unable to troubleshoot by yourself if anything goes wrong / Have to go directly to supplier office for RMA

but sim lim square people are kind , you can bring back your pc to the store to troubleshoot

I have an aftershock rig. I DIY a few PC in the past but decided to go for aftershock. Paying a bit of premium for warranty + maintenance was worth it for me since i am lazy...

They also honor warranty even if you swap parts. I have changed my CPU, GPU in my rig also no issue.

I would recommend them to anyone who does not want to learn to DIY. I will likely get my next rig from them too, I am no longer that interested in changing my rig too often and don't want to spend time troubleshooting when there are issues. Time is more valuable for me now. Its a balance only you will know for yourself to make that decision.

i would say it is up to personal preference.

if you just want something that works, with a little bit of customization and good warranty and willing to pay more, go for aftershock.

If you want full control on the parts inside your PC, for for DIY. However, you need to make a effort to check out parts, which is your preference etc. takes abit more work but this is full control on your own PC.

Aftershock units are great for the support options
DIY units are great for availability

The only reason to pay more to DIY is if one cannot wait weeks for Aftershock

Essentially BOTH are he same price

One you get on the spot or in days (+research time or building time )
One you order and wait about a month on average

By the time the Aftershock unit comes
The person who got the DIY would have enjoyed it for a while

The price you pay for An Aftershock unit, is the loss of virtual currency / enjoyment during the time you spent twiddling your fingers, waiting for your ordered set to arrive

Essentially, its all about trading time for money, and how much one values his/her time
