Intending to get a new laptop during a computer show, been directed to aftershock. So after looking through, got a few questions.

Backgnd story
Currently using a MSI GE60 to do graphic and 3d stuff. need to get a replacemeent cause it's getting really slow.
Current specs is
CPU : Intel i5-3210M 2.5ghz
Graphics card : Nvidia geforce GT650M 2gb
Ram : 16gb DDR3

Now looking at aftershock, 17" cause eyes getting old...
is there a lot of difference between

CPU
Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor (Quad Core 6th Gen)
VS
Intel i7 6700 Desktop Processor

Graphics Card
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5 Graphics
Vs
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5
VS
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 965M 2GB GDDR5

Pricing difference between the W and the S series comes up to about 1k, soooo.

Thank you for any help rendered!

Desktop processor is always faster than laptop based. Your laptop is for work at home or for travelling? W and S series weight different by a lot I supposed?
IF not gaming get the cheapest gpu will do.

Ah ok, and draw more power I suppose? It's really meant for home use, as a desktop replacement. Only to be brought out on occassion. The one that I'm using now will be more for my travelling use.

Not for gaming, but I think 3d graphics is pretty intense too? or is the CPU important more for on the fly rendering like gaming?

I think for gpu more improvement will be seen if using quadro gpu rather then consumer based gpu. It depends on the software you using as well.

But cpu better choose i7 desktop processor since it more likely rooted in your home.

It depends actually as there are different types of rendering - therefore CPU is used or GPU is used.

If you game then GPU is needed.
Photoshop Lightroom prefers a better CPU.
while Photoshop CS requires a GPU more though it is recommended to have a better CPU.

Thus my answer to your question is both. If it's an even balance - it should perform well

This article is a good read on the types of rendering.
