Your title makes it sound like aftershock laptops spoil quickly.. Anyway they do seem to offer a 3 year warranty upgrade if you need.

I believe if you take care of the notebook it shd be able to last more than 3 yrs. We can bring our aftershock notebook to their service center anytime. Just call them and make arrangement. As for Dell I am not sure if they provide such services.

No laptop can totally protect itself from user's own behaviour. How you treat the machine is still the biggest factor that determine its longevity. If it is any assurance, aftershock's standard service warranty is around 3 years so at least you have some coverage for service.

I think laptops - especially gaming laptops and high performance multimedia laptops do require a re-application of thermal paste. I have an Asus N61J. After a couple of years, my temps went up to 90-95 even on relatively light loads (but of course, maybe other laptops do not have this issue). I reapplied thermal paste myself but it is nice if you have someone to do it for you. If you are someone who tinkers regularly, it makes sense to invest in the tools and materials to do it yourself. If you are only going to open up a laptop once a year or less often than that, get someone to do it for you. I kinda feel I wasted money and time buying thermal paste, looking for a solution to clean off the old paste, so on so forth.

Oh. I would like to add that for laptops, I feel that good support is more important that a so called 'good' laptop. Laptop parts are more specialized and difficult to obtain than desktop parts for the consumer. I have owned Macbook Pros, Thinkpads T and X series laptops - most of them have had issues so even so called expensive and 'reliable' laptops have issues.

is this more prominent in laptops than desktops? i dont hear ppl reapplying thermal paste often unless they remove their cpu coolers

Thought i might add my 2 cents.

Thing is, Aftershock gets their laptops from a company called Clevo which has been making gaming grade laptops for quite some time. So asking if the Aftershock Halo, which is based on the Clevo W740SU, will last for 3 years really depends on the user. Having said that, Clevo itself is a well known laptop manufacturer. If you go to Laptop Reviews - Notebook Reviews and Computer News, you will see that Clevo is one of the most popular gaming laptops and I am sure there are many out there who will agree with me that these guys are the "real" gaming laptop manufacturers. Although their business strategy is different from the likes of SAmsung, Acer, Hp, Dell etc, i personally don't think any less of Clevo.

The thing with buying a Clevo laptop is really dependent on the company that you buy it from. In our case, Aftershock PC. So Aftershock PC gets the barebone chasis and they customize the specs to what customers want which is one of the great things about Clevo/Aftershock.

One important thing to note when buying a Clevo laptop is customer service. Clevo themselves won't really give a damn about end buyers like myself because they mainly deal with their "partners" such as Aftershock PC.

Having recently purchased the Aftershock XG13, based on the Clevo W230ST, the notebook performance has been great. And most of all, Aftershock PC's customer service is truly fantastic.

The company itself is run by a younger crowd therefore they really know what the customers want and they themselves pride on having a great customer service which is crucial in this business.

So when u ask whether the laptop will spoil easily or not, i really think that depends on the user. But overall, I would think Aftershock PC is a great place to purchase your notebook from.

Sorry if the post is a bit long but having met the guys and talked to them and they managed to convince me to get my Clevo W230ST from them, I figured I might as well put in a good word for them.

But one thing is for sure, If you really want a gaming Laptop, try to go for one with discrete graphic card. Halo uses integrated GFX.

It really depends on how the user use the system though. personally i think thermal paste repasting is quite important. was using a MSI laptop previously, within 6 months, temperature shoot up to 90 degree the moment i turn it on. whereas my Aftershock X15 still works find after one year and more. The chasis itself is quite durable, given that im quite a rough user too. Only some scratches on the top cover due to my negligence by putting it in my bag with a set of keys.

It's more likely the dust accumulation caused the high temperatures. Good thermal pastes generally can last for years.

I actually clean my system frequently. Use a hair dyer with cool air to blow off the dust on the fan and use some qtip to wipe it. haha. but the palm rest area of my MSI is really....can cook egg already

I think this a very subjective thing. There cannot be a guarantee on any hardware as to how long it will last. It may work out well for one person, but not another. If you manage to get a laptop that last 3 years with no issue, it is a luck thing.
