I realized there are two options, Pay Now or Book Now, Pay Later.

What if I Book Now, Pay Later and say next week, I decide to Pay full amount, can Agoda change the payment mode?

You decide which payment type to use. There is no partial payment. Either pay in full now or pay later automatically.

Yes, you can. But the amount may not be the same as what it would be if you have chosen Pay Now.

I have a booking that is pending payment with option to cancel. I have been calling Agoda to check the amount if I want to pay now. Though Yen is depreciating, the room price is going up day by day (I call Agoda almost every other day). I asked why is that so and was told Agoda doesn’t use the international exchange rate but its own system rate which the CS can’t explain or tell me any other information.

Do note also once you pay, you can’t cancel the booking or there is no 100% refund.

I always choose Pay Now. Why so troublesome?

Since confirm going and staying in that hotel, just pay and settle once for all.

Haha same here ... normally would pay now
not sure later the exchange rate would be worst or not ...
In case anything happens to ur cc, if cannot go through, u now know already ...
later few days later then ur cc cannot go thru, then gg ... u have to look for other hotels...

Pay now has pros and cons:
Pros: I) Lodging is confirmed at known exchange rate. What u see is what u pay.
II) Slightly cheaper than pay later.

Cons: If anything happen that force u to cancel the trip, u may end up loss all or partial the lodging payment. Some may said can claim for insurance company with valid reasons if u buy the travel insurance.

Pay later mean ur CC will be charge usually less than 1 week before ur actual lodging date. The lodging is confirmed but the payment haven’t executed.
Pros: U can cancel anytime before the charges take effect if unforeseen circumstances happened or u opt for other places due to iterinerary changes.
Cons: I) The final payment amount charge to ur CC will vary due to forex rate at the time of CC payment initiated. This can be a pro too if the forex weaken vs SGD.
II) Pay now slightly cheaper than pay later but not true in some country like Australia where both are same rate during checkout.

Given 5% difference in forex rate between pay now or pay later, for every $100 is only 50cents. I won’t even stress over this amount.

Want to check your math again? 5% of $100 is $5. Quite significant actually.

You can't change payment mode once you submit.

What you can do is choose those with free cancellation … in event you need to change payment mode / hotel … simply just cancel & book again

I always choose pay later. Reason being, every time the price will change (lower) due to promotions or agoda's price algorithm. Recently I booked a hotel priced at $50 a night. 1 week later I received an email from Agoda about some promotion or member's perk. Then when I went back to check the price, it became $45. So I quickly cancel my booking and rebook again at the lower price. $5 x 7 nights, how much I saved vs how much I save if I choose to pay now at slightly cheaper rate? Not to forget I can cancel any time if I cannot make it for the trip or I found a better hotel.

Normally those hotel prices which I have deemed is a good promo , I would pay first ... if not soso promo, I will pay later ...

So far agoda and expedia not bad ...
If the hotel is undergoing renovations, they would call / email you.
For the price u have paid, they would suggest you if hotels which is slightly more expensive

For example, booked 2* singapore hotel , friends from msia coming to stay
booked at $70 per night for two ...
eventually they got to change to aqueen hotel ...
which is usually $85 to $100+ ...

Posted a question in the CIMB visa signature about this agoda payment.
Does anyone know if Agoda counts as online payment?
Because when I pay it, there was no request for code.
Within 24hours I can cancel for free.

For other credit cards, agoda should be categorised under online purchase ...

For others? Should be the same merchant code for all since it's decided by Visa and Mastercard right? :s11:

You need to check what you are booking, payment using CC or payment by cash to minsu/hotel. If the later, agoda will need your CC information but no charges is made.

Recently i was contemplating between Pay now or Pay later. The other time i choose pay later and the final price was about $8 higher 😑 . In my opinion it seems like a better offer to pay now and lock in the rates instead of being charged at the foreign currency exchange rate at that time. For pay now, i think you could still have free cancellation until a certain date.

Not only that.

By booking and choosing to pay later, you chope the hotel room first to make sure that you have a room, while watching the price of another hotel (s) to see if it drops. If it does, you book that one and cancel this one.

I did that before between Agoda and Bookings.com
