I myself have a PruShield. Right now am looking to get 1 for both my parents. age 60 and 65 respectively

I am comparing AIA to my plan as my parents say AIA is cheaper from my Aunt.

I am confuse about the AIA shield structure. Seen from the pic above, there is 3 portions: Medisave life, additional Private Insurance and the rider

I am guessing from what I see here. Please correct me.
Medisave Life - only public hospital
Additional Private Insurance /OPTIONAL? - Cover Private hospital portion?
Rider (AIA Max Essential) /OPTIONAL - covers deductible and CO- insurance.

Parents pre-existing condition

Mum - Diabetes and Asthma
Father - High Blood Pressure and Hepatitis B

what are the possible exclusions?

Yes ur understanding is correct.
For yr father, most probably will exclude all heart condition, stroke etc. Sometimes the insurer may not even want to take.

For yr mother, all diabetes complications such as kidney failure, liver etc may not be covered. Heart condition also may not be covered cos diabetes may eventually lead to heart failure

Yes correct that's if u choose the gold max A den it covers

That explain the cheap cost.

weird thing is my unlce went of an op but he only sign up the medisave portion. However he did not pay a single cent. i doubt he bought the rider.

Now that i think of it. can it be just the medisave + rider (AIA Max Essential)? without the private plan?

Cannot. Usually u need buy main plan upgrade from the private insurer den can add rider. Ntuc cheapest

Most probably ur uncle didn't pay single cent cos he deduct from medisave

will take look at NTUC My aunt and uncle got it so she want the same plan.

my uncle stayed SGH A ward and did not pay anything.

most likely he bought the Plan A + rider. am i right to say that.? cos i find it weird? no rider but yet no need to pay a cent for hospital A ward stay

Medishield life wil only cover up to what it is suppose to be covered for. There r certain claim limits and can be up to b2/c wards. If u go private.. They will juz charge u as per usual n medishield life will only help up to the b2/c subsidy. So thats gonna be a rather huge cost if u dont have the additional private hospital coverage.

You r right on the possible exclusions for ur dad n mum. However it depends on underwriter and they may send them for medical checkup to see if it is serious enough for exclusion.

You are alrdy covered under medishield life. Its only whether u wan to enhance the coverage by adding on the private shieldplan coverage with the additional premium amount, which will be deducted from ur medisave.

The same goes for all other insurers. U juz need to find the one ur comfortable with and add on the private shieldplan coverage.

What the point in paying AIA for the medisheild life premium n not just let cpf deduct by itself?

Hmmm... I think u are abit confused with the terms. I try to explain it in a simple way for u to understand

Every Singaporean is covered by a compulsory MediShield Life which covers the basic hospitalisation in b2/c class ward. Room charges and operation fee is capped at a certain limit per procedure. If u overshot this limit, u need to top up with cash/pay from ur medisave.

If u upgrade to coverage by private insurer, u can choose either private, A ward and B2/C ward coverage. The difference is that there is no cap to the coverage per procedure unlike the basic MediShield Life.

Take note that whether u are under MediShield Life or even the upgraded shield plan from private insurer, u need to pay for the first 2500-3500$ and 10% of the remaining bill before being able to claim for benefit. If u don't want to pay a single cent, u need to buy a rider which u need to pay cash (and sign up for upgraded plan with private insurer)

Hope u got a better idea on how things work. Any qn feel free to ask. Will try my best to answer. Also u can look at the sticky on MediShield plan to know more

Even if you do not have any private coverage, medishield life premium is alrdy being deducted from your medisave.

The AIA private portion is an additional coverage you can opt to pay for, which is over and above your medishield life to cover your hospital bills.

It is not that AIA is going to deduct you, and medishield life deducts you again. No double deduction. The table just want to let you know what the premium for medishield life are.

Diabetes is outright decline for health plan. High Blood and Hep B exclude Heart and Vessels, Lungs Complications respectively.

With respect to their age, chances will not be high unless exceptional good readings.

They are still covered under MSHL, even if they can't upgrade.
