Considering between Xiaomi 2S and Clean Air AP-777. Former for measurements like 2.5PM, latter for washable filter, though not sure how important those are. Anyone use them and have any comments?

Also, Clean air is true hepa, Xiaomi isn't, but still ok for haze right?

Anything else that I should consider?

I bought LG air purifier before. Also claimed washable filter. But the filter lost its effectiveness after I washed it.

Edit: just went to Qoo10 to check out AP-777. The washable one is the 'Pre-filter', not the hepa filter. They are different.

As for Clean Air AP-777, I bought the older version in 2015. Not impressed with the air output, can't filter air as well as LG or Samsung. The new version I am not sure how good it is.

I don't own a Xiao Mi. But base on what I have read so far, I would go for Xiaomi for my next purifier.

Looks like you are not a regular user, what whitesands recommended is ok and convenient.

For those who are daily users and have multiple AP units (other than the AX40) and want to change it every 6-9 months (you know, the filter smells after a while) and want an even more economical option, just go to Taobao and type DIY HEPA, choose those which are 300mm x 300mm x 2.5cm. The Samsung AX40 is 320mm x 285mm in L and W.

Slice the HEPA up to fit the 285mm dimension first, slice the filter so that it goes "along the grain", it's much easier to cut this way and less messy.
For the other dimension, roll up a bit of the plastic wrapping that comes with the filter and stuff it into the gap between the filter and the walls of the AX40 (since this one is 320mm for the AX40 and filter is only 300mm, hence 25mm gap).

Don't worry too much about the gaps and whatnots affecting the air quality due to bypass (it's very very little only), it'd still have decent CADR and clean the room's air of haze very nicely. The filter's filtration output is about 90-95%, so that is about H10 to H11.
I have confirmed with the laser particle counter, HDB room can still be cleaned. The drop in airflow velocity is noticeable, CADR shd be around 200-230 m3/hr, so still no issue one.
Another good thing is that the due to the lower airflow (due to increased filter resistance), it sort of is a manual medium speed.......so it's even more silent than the original filter at high speed.
I find that for regular use, this 200-230 m3/hr CADR with even more silent operation is fine, not that the orignal filter at 323 m3/hr high speed is noisy.

his is one of them.

You are really haze guru, I also have a AX40 but decided to buy the third party from Qoo10 since deliver faster.

I don’t know how to buy from Taobao also.. it would be great if you can buy several pieces for the benefit of HWZ users hahah...

So hard to maintain this. My living room quite stuffy now thou. Don't dare to open the window as I have a baby in the hse.

If you have an infant in the house, then the more you'd need to leave that 5-10mm gap for cross-ventilation so as to maintain a lower CO2 ppm esp moving forward we have the possibility of getting more haze as for those who are watching this it is not dissimilar to 2015. Else it's going to be uncomfortable for him/her.

If anyone's newborn/infant/toddler is down with some sickness or is a bit pre-term or have any other related sicknesses that might be excerbated by the haze, then no choice, need to get 1 or even 2 more APs.

You can switch on the APs at full strength, but that'd be damn noisy. So can't be helped.

Also, it cannot helped that with Singapore's weather, utilizing the AP also means needing to use AC as well, not to only reduce the temperature but also reduce humidity.

For those who wants to get from TB but have issue buying or reading chinese, just engage the 3rd party forwarders and their "buyforme" services. But since they are probably charging "half volumetric shipping weight", probably the overall costs won't be that much lower than qoo10.

If use cainiao official fwd, they most probably are doing actual weight.....and is going to be pretty worth it. But do not ship like one dozen in 1 box, cainiao when checking and weighing it when the 快递 pkg reaches the warehouse, it might trigger them to use volumetric weight. Each order maybe can get 2pcs, see how much is the warehouse weight that they are charging after checking into the system (you can see for each individual package), then buy more. Max pieces i think if get 4pcs shd be pretty safe, not such a big box to get the warehouse checkers to notice.

Yeah. Now I am opening my window leaving a gap of 5 cm and fan to air the room. But my living room is too big that my 2s is not effective at all although there is aircon in the living room.

Bought an LG air purifier in 2015. It's difficult to get the replacement filter so I decided to improvise by using a smaller size filter bought from taobao. The result is quite acceptable to me. No fish prawn also good. :D

There really is no such thing as washable HEPA. It's in this thread before, they measured it before and after washing (CADR), effectiveness is lost after washing.

5cm is quite big if there is already cross-ventilation (ie wind coming in from the main door and leaving the house via the living rm windows), just basically you try to feel if there is any airflow at that air gap, put a finger there and try to feel. If it's too much then you can reduce it. If your house is not windy type, maybe need 5cm.

Issue is, people close up 100% all the windows, and the only airgap is at the lviving room door or master bedroom door gap, and since there is no cross-ventilation, that gap is as good as not there.

I think you get the idea lah......just a little airflow / constant air change for the house is sufficient.
Don't really need to totally air the room.

This constant air change is also what is employed in commercial sites/buildings with air-conditioning in their HVAC systems.

They have already figured this out in China, where their air pollution episodes are higher in levels and also longer. Every 20-30 days they might need to change the filter during a bad season.......else the airflow really noticeably drops.

It's just not possible to splurge 100+ for an original filter change esp for those branded ones. Esp when you have multiple APs, and some folks have 4-5 units. I used to gun iirc 11 APs in 3 houses back in 2015.

Instead of many multiple APs, folks can also do fewer but bigger and higher airflow APs, but in Singapore where BTOs are small, it might not be reno-friendly or even possible in terms of footprint.

But of coz in SG we don't have such bad episodes, but still if cost is a concern (ie lower income families or those who just don't wanna spend on such stuff), then this is it.

With a 2nd hand $50-60 Samsung AX40 on carousell and TB filters, i don't see why a lower-income family cannot afford an AP or 2 even.

Clean air via APs is not a luxury, unlike last time in 1997, 2006, 2010 or even 2013/2014 episodes when costs were very high.

If you find spending $600 on an AP and then using $5 HEPA filters is dumb (even if it works pretty ok, maciam like a medium speed setting), then seriously you are not incorrect. :D

So the thing is this, you buy cheap or even second hand units. Then you use $5 filters.
You then operate multiples, 2 for living, 1 for the small bedrooms, 2 for the MBR. You enjoy lower sound level too.

For second hand APs, just get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and clean the internals. 30 minute job. All the smell will be gone.
Yes, a bit of elbow grease needed, but it fits the grand scheme of things.

Alternatively, the Xiaomis are also not very expensive in the long term operation overall.

Tip : If you find that your AP filter in cold storage has picked up that storeroom smell and is very evident when you switch on the AP, then for today just run the AP in low fan speed for the next 48-72 hours continuously. Its should largely be gone by day 2 or 3.

This is also what you'd do for those new TB cheap filters, coz there is a slightly smell too.

Don't have to throw away and replace that old filter, esp when it wasn't used much before and there is no significant drop in airflow.

Key thing here a big AP at medium speed is better than a small AP at high speed.

The noise at high speed is not bearable esp for xiaomi.

lol....since 6pm till now, minihelpers sold 50+ purifiers....:s22:

Air quality took a sharp turn for the worse on Saturday (Sept 14), with the PSI reading crossing the unhealthy level for the first time in three years.

The 24-hour PSI readings ranged between 94 and 112 at 9pm, with the highest recorded reading in western Singapore.

Lol is it me I see wrongly or what, yesterday's price was at $139 for 2S, however, today it increased to $159-$179? :s22::s22:
