And every time NEA wants to take down the site/PSI readings for a few hours for scheduled maintainance also tio jinxed kena haze. Twice in a row already.

Last week they did not dare to take down the hourly PM2.5 conc readings due to haze. I wonder if they will they go ahead later. :s11:

Too bad the US embassy here don't have air quality monitoring station (or maybe they have but don't publish the results)... I really find NEA data got integrity issue after Thursday's fiasco.

Should be around there, ~ 60 ug/m3 / low AQI 150s for South and East now.

Getting smoked.

From NEA websai, rojak indicator, mentioning ug/m3 and PSI in single sentence, expecting layman to understand.
1hr pm2.5 above 55ug/m3 is NOT moderate range, it is into unhealthy range.

At 2pm, west 1hr pm2.5 chiong to 99ug/m3 with south at 85ug/m3.

HAZE SITUATION UPDATE (19 OCTOBER, 12pm)

Singapore, 19 October 2014 – It was hazy in Singapore this afternoon. The PM2.5 levels were slightly elevated in most Regions of Singapore overnight. The 1-hr concentrations of PM2.5 ranged from 45 - 77ug/m3 as at 12pm today, and the 24-hr PSI was 81- 93, in the Moderate range. The haziness was likely due to smoke haze from Sumatra, blown in by the prevailing winds.

2 The current haziness is expected to persist for the rest of today. Thundery showers are forecast in the afternoon for Singapore, and this may help to improve the hazy conditions. The overall 24-hr PSI for Singapore is expected to be in the high-end of the Moderate range and low-end of the Unhealthy range today.

Just saw the aqicn website n it says west side now PM2.5 reading @ 172, red red de

But so far dun smell any burning smell wor

No smell, and for those people living on lower floors only see 100m next block, and no check 1-hr PSI, 3-hr PSI, concentration, whatever, is sure jialuck in a prolonged bout of haze like what we have been experiencing since Sep 1.

And seriously, 99% of Singaporeans out there no care one lah. My wife is actually surprised that just now there were families with pregnant ladies nkids walking about in close to 100 ug/m3 of haze, when she returned home from NTUC.
(remember, small kids can add 50% to the numbers wrt respiration so relatively that's like 150 ug/m3 for them).

If they ever google NCBI PubMed for PM2.5 for prenatal, infants and toddlers later on when older etc, their eyes sure pop out one.

Haha.. I expect their advisory to be of world class std.
At 10am, 11am and also at 12nn, 1hr pm2.5 readings for some regions exceed 55ug/m3 and shld be considered unhealthy, not moderate.

"Problem" is that many agencies like WHO and EPA also state 24hr. This is also our ministar's stance.

However, EPA starts advisories for Sensitive Groups from 36ug/m3 and WHO recommends keeping it below 25ug/m3.

For us, we only start at 56ug/m3 (PSI 100) and the next level up is a big jump at 150ug/m3.

MOH recommends that a N95 needs to be used when a healthy pax is outdoors for several hours only if the PSI is > 300 for several hours. A N95 does not need to be used for short exposures like trips to the shopping mall or to and fro office commuting trips.

PSI 300 is probably 250ug/m3 thereabouts.
Calculate how fast the daily recommended limit of 25 or 35ug/m3 24hrs avg threshold will be reached.
Actually, part of the answer can already be found in the spreadsheet pic that i posted a few times. It doesnt take much to exceed the threshold even for just now's haze.

I would say that even the regular China citizen's standard is also more kiasee than MOH's standard. :D

Sauce :
FAQ: Use of masks and availability of masks | Ministry of Health

N95 masks are not needed for short exposure, like commuting from home to school or work, travel from bus-stop to shopping mall. N95 masks are also not needed in an indoor environment.

Contrast with the Malaysian education ministry's call to stop school when it goes above 200. :D

H10 HEPA-10 filter purchased from taobao.

Started to use from yesterday to help augment my Samsung AX40.

About total 10hrs of usage from yesterday to today? 40 ug to 89 ug/m3 range.

Check out the PM it filtered in just 10 hours from brand new pristine status. Somemore this is used in the living room IN ADDITION to my Samsung AX40 (a 323 m3/hr air purifier) helping it.
