AIRBNB Problem

Hi Guys,

Recently I stayed in an apartment in Tokyo. The airbnb host wants to charge us extra because we checked out late, which they agreed to.

I had the whole conversation with them about them agreeing to our late check out.

Now they want to charge us 5400 yen thru resolution center which I am hesitant to pay because it is not our fault as they have agreed to it initially.

What would happen if I refuse to pay this amount as we have the whole convo recorded? I read stories on how airbnb is not exactly pro customers and will leave it to us to settle our own problems.

Or said u can check out late but didnt state if there will be extra charges

They did not specifically said there's no charges however they said 'its ok'

Problem is language barrier as they type in very broken english.. I think they are just taking advantage of us. Initially they asked for 10,000 yen in total. I told them no way I'm going to pay for that amount for something I did not do wrong.

Then now they reduce to 5400.

It was agreed by the host that we will check out at 1pm.

The amount they charge was not a late check out amount it was the amount for 1 night stay because they mentioned that because we check out later, they were unable to accept another 'last min' booking.

If there is a last minute booking, then why agree to us checking out late?

Its like they purposely set this up so they can charge us one night extra and use this 'imaginary' last min booking as an excuse.

If they said NO to the late checkout, we would have checked out on time.

What a bad experience with a host this time.

I would have stayed in a hotel if I knew this is going to be a problem.

The location was really off also.. was such a bad experience for us. The rushing to the airport and the problem with the host on the last day.

We argued and almost missed our train!

if it is not specified that you will be charged for late checkout, then you don't have the obligation to pay. contact airbnb and let them know.

do u have any agreement for the 1pm? any form of supporting black and white from them stating the 1pm check out is foc.. if u have and they had a last min booking, host should inform the last min booking that the room will be available at a certain time..
