every host n place are diff so it's hard to say. i stay at airbnb solo in several diff countries b4, in japan twice, both times private residences n had gd exp.
i nv rly take much pre-cautions when there but i do research the airbnb listings as much as possible before booking eg reading the reviews the have n the reviews they leave for others, if they hosted foreigners b4 etc. i'll also interact w them to see how n if they respond, to get a feel of things, even if it's just asking a basic qns.
i've only stayed w a non super-host once n it's not a place i'd choose again...
like others said see if anything usual in ur room, peeping cameras those things. i read a comment before to take pics when u r there so if anything broken n not ur fault, u have a reference.
