Has anyone paid for their airbnb accomodation in other currencies but SGD?

Am trying to figure out whether it's better to pay in the currency the airbnb is located at (e.g. If the house is in Japan, then pay in Yen) or pay in the currency of where Airbnb payment processing is (some where in UK?).

Thanks!

no point. if you pay in yen, airbnb will still markup around 3% so that they can earn foreign transaction fee. kind of ddc forced on you regardless of what currency you choose.

I would prefer to pay in SGD. Why pay in foreign currency? It will end up more than what you paid as credit card company will use their bank exchange rate and charge you admin fee.

yes, you will have to pay an extra 3-4% conversion fee to airbnb regardless of the currency you choose.

you can change the currency selection and then checkout and see how much airbnb is charging you in your selected currency.

Dcc charges can be quite high depending on currency and visa or master.

you'll be surprised, most of the time bank rates are better than what airbnb quoted.

credit card markup another 0.8-1.0%

effective +3.82% to +4.03%

airbnb will add 3% or more conversion fee if you pay in host's local currency.

last month i wanted to book a place in indonesia with cimb's no foreign fee card. i wanted to pay in rupiah but at checkout page, airbnb hiked the price by 3%.

Any airbnb credit card promo at the moment?

Ask someone with airbnb account and send the link to you and use that link to create an account and you will get some credits around S$28, use that credit to offset your booking.
