Aircon trunking question

The aircon men have installed the aircon piping just below the aircon and run the trunking all the way across the wall such that I cannot do a false ceiling to hide the trunking. Will have to do a box-up instead.

My question is: is it true that it’s not possible for the trunking to go up to the ceiling and run along it like my previous house?

The explanation given to me was that the water pipe and aircon trunking are in the same trunking, and water pipe needs to be below the aircon for the water to flow.

Those who have trunking sticking to the ceiling sides have a separate water pipe that runs below.

How true is that?

Not true

water drainage pipe need to be below fan coil unit (gravity)

but the two gas pipes, they can go above the fan coil unit

The water pipe really need to be below the fancoil but not the electrical wire or gas pipe. If in living room, alternative will be to drill into the wall (if possible) and hide all trunking in the room side.

I just installed a new aircon system yesterday after pulling out some of the old pipes.

Let me say this: Please install exposed trunking. Down the road, there will for sure be gas leaks, condensation, dripping water etc. You will have to replace the pipes, and it is a massive chore to tear down concealed pipes and ruin your false ceiling or furniture. You will rue your so-called aesthetic choice.

And yes, water pipes have to be gravity dependent, otherwise you can install a water pump which will make sucking noises throughout the night. Not what you want for a quiet sleep.

You are right, I made the most stupid mistake of hiding the trunking behind my custom wardrode. Next time will be a nightmare and waste of money if really have to tear everything out.

not true. you have to plan with your aircon guys to lay the cables the way you want. if gradient is not optimised, may always install a water pump.

Basically I told the aircon men to leave many old pipes in the furniture and false walls, and to create new exposed trunking outside. At least no need to tear down too much, but it was still a major renovation to build so many new pipe pathways.

1) Make sure the pipe to yr floor drain at bathroom is as slant as possible so water will flow out much better. ( Choose bigger dia pipes)

2) Make sure armaflex are used from fan coil all the way till ac compressor.

3) Make sure there are trunking to cover all the pipings n cables from outside yr bathroom to yr ac compressor at ac ledge, dont leave them exposed n trunking to power isolator.

4) Submit to HDB.

5) Put rubber paddings below ac compressor.

At 0.55sec

U met a responsible air con guy who did the right thing. On the other hand is really stupid to conceal the pipes unless you intend to hack open them every decade or so to deal with leaking pipes and mold problems.

Eh common sense mah this one. Your trunking go upwards how you expect the discharge water to flow to drain?
