We can buy Ali Baba tonight
<br />We can buy Ali Baba tonight
As a retail investor, I think it would be quite hard for you to get anything more than a couple of hundred of shares. I also think that your RM probably is just trying to ramp up the order books by asking you to put in that order.
Anyway, I don't think it will work out for retail investors like us. Found this pretty interesting read about investing in Alibaba IPO anyway, you may want to check an alibaba article on weinvest dot net slash blog (can't quite link cos' I am a newbie...)
Actually JPM and MS being book runners for the IPO are legally not allowed to mention or even pitch alibaba or yahoo or SoftBank to you officially. They are only allowed to take orders and cannot answer any questions.
Anyway, I put in an order for alibaba. We'll see how good a customer I am to my bank. Haha! They didn't give me squat for FB. But the rm told me, if you want 50k worth, you better ask for like 200k or more. Good luck to me!

anyone going to get in on the action via ipo etfs like KWEB?
And the IPO's priced at $68.
Looks like the memory of the FB IPO disaster, where the bookrunners said "OK, you can have all that and more" has worn off:
Such was the enthusiasm that one hedge fund with $3 billion in assets placed a multibillion-dollar order, hoping to receive even a fraction of that amount, a person briefed on the matter has said.
