Hi all. I would like to transfer components from my x51 to a medium tower as the temp hike is bothering me. What should i take note specifically? All I know is that i will be getting a new mobo and psu cause the x51 uses a m-itx mobo. can someone who's done something similar share your experience? also, do i need to buy a new OS?

Why do you need to get a new mobo unless your new chassis is even smaller than mITX (not that going smaller makes sense to me)? A mITX board will fit into most if not all tower chassis.

I'm guessing the mitx mobo and cpu can be reused, along with the hard disk and optical disc drive (if you have it in your rig).

However, a new psu has to be procured if TS is thinking of migrating its contents, as the x51 uses an internal AC adapter psu, or unless you can modify the new rig to take in the current psu.

Temps wise, you have to do research on air flow for the cases you intend to switch to and the likes, maintenance is also necessary to help keep temperatures in check.

I may be wrong, but if you are reusing the current mobo, I think you may be able to create a recovery media first, then when you migrate your rig over, just do what you would do with a factory reset (of sorts) with your rig.

Whatever you wish to do, please do research on your own because everyone's needs is different. There are youtube videos of people upgrading their current x51/r2, or migrating x51 rigs entirely.

I want a new mobo as the IO shield for the existing mobo is permanently fixed unto the current alienware casing. i can still use it but no nice la.

If changing mobo, you need to buy a new copy of the OS.
You can generally purchase any reliable branded PSUs(eg. FSP, Superflower, Corsair).

Most if not all PSUs come with enough connectors for a standard rig, you would need to figure out your power requirement though.
