through the journey of selling ceiling fans, decided to come out a thread for some education about ceiling fans selection and purchase.

*nothing to do with advertising or promoting sales

Recommended sizes of ceiling fans for our HDB flats:

for most HDB flat, the recommended sizes could range from 50' - 60'
56' is only 140cm whileas 60' is only 150cm, 10 cm additional is not that significant.
Yes, this sizes can be use in any application, from common room to living room

in 5 room flat, especially the newer bto, some of the customers actually put 2 ceiling fans in the living room alone.
1 over the dining area; models like fanaway whereby the blades hide itself when not in use.
the other, at the sofa area, enjoying the wind while watching tv. (i'm doing that :s13:)

well, be it 2 or 3 or 5 room, owners can choose anything from 50-60'
it's perfectly ok, we even have customers who did those false ceiling at all corner.

The bigger the better?? :s11: you probably will ask

In a way, it works but the design of the blades also plays an important role.
Some are plainly straight while some, more curvy
Material of the blades also play an important role, gone were the days of wooden blades..

If you still see wooden blades, don't bother..
save the money.. over time, the performance will deteriorate

Nowadays, ABS material are the preferred one, lighter and better in terms of efficiency

Our local weather is hot and humid, hence i always encourage customers to go for bigger sizes.
Those who are more savvy, i will share with them on the designs

well, range ranges from $100 above, depending on models and selection of needs.
Installation, is $45 each. pretty standard as market rate :s13:

What if I have a false ceiling or L box? What size would apply in this case?

Talking about 4-room flat here.

Comparing the new BTOs, 5 room living area is bigger than 4 room living area.

well, it dependent on your design of the false ceiling or L box.
i would say 56' is suffice, not to be over ambitious, although you really can.

take one of my customers for example, he bought an unit 60' for his living room.
his false ceiling is all across with light throwing at all corners.
of course, during the installation.
It will be more work for the installer, he gonna drill a hole onto the false wall, secure onto the primary ceiling wall.
the design will be like the ceiling fan sitting on the false wall while the rod hidden insde.

(sorry, not enough post to insert pics yet) :s13:

Anyway, i'm only using 54' for my living room. should go for bigger as some time, it could be really warm. lucky the design chosen was still good, curvy type
mine is at Punggol but no false wall or whatsoever.

Thanks for the advice.

Can I ask you about 48'? Is it sufficient for a master bedroom? I know this size might be a little bit small for living area, that's why I'm asking for master bedroom.

My bedroom isn't exactly big and I have L box in my master bedroom, which already consume some space.

48' is as at 1.2m

I feel it's kinda small but really depends on you.
Selection of ceiling fans, don't have a right or wrong answer.
Its all about your comfort and accepting level.
Thats why brands come out various sizes to max at 62'

another size you can consider is 52' which stand at 1.3m.

Basically my style is 2 in 1, meaning ceiling fan with light feature.
Yes, 1 alone is suffice to light up the room.
it just playing around with the choices of light bulb or LED.

you must understand the measurement of the ceiling fans, it goes from end to end. hence don't get frighten by the measurement and numbers.

if you want, i can share with you in my layout.
you can use it as reference :D

reason: i saw you got a food blog and i'm a glutton:D

Hi, does a ceiling fan between 2 lightings in a 2 rm bto living room look strange? Or better to just get a ceiling fan cum lighting?

Asking like longer gun barrel more powderful when using same calibre of bullet. lolz... :s13:

I have 6 ceilings in my house lasted about 18 months now. All still strong and powderful...:s13:

2 x 52" for living room and 4 x 42" for each bedroom. Depending on your requirement and luck, there are plenty of models, brands and sizes out there. lolz...maybe if comparing **, even longer may not be as powderful...:s13:

Question: Can the long shafts on a "normal" ceiling fan be cut down to make it suitable for use in HDB?

I bought a 4 room HDB resale flat.
Need to buy 3 ceiling fans with light for 3 bedrooms and 1 ceiling fan with no light for living room.
problem is my flat's ceiling is 6 inches lower than normal HDB flat and my son in law is very tall , about 1.8 metres in height .
Any recomendations?
Can I seek your advice on this because I need to settle this. Thank you
