I'm posting here cos I'm not quite sure where else to get advice. Basically I'm not sure whether this computer repair guy is pulling a fast one on me.

He's telling me that:
A) a GT740M OC 4GB is better than a GTX660ti or HD6950 2GB, and
B) ASROCK H71M-DGS is better than ASROCK Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3

The stuff on the left is what he is (long story short) trying to replace my stuff with.

Is this true or is this guy ********ting?

Wow, he still insisted with his 'over 10 years experience in this field' that the gt740 is 100 times better'. wtf. This guy is from Intelligent Computer Services btw. Don't ever go to them.

Firstly, what do you want from his service first? Upgrading your computer? If yes, can you state your computer spec and your budget?

GTX660ti and HD6950 is better than GT740M. The GT740M is a mobile graphic card only for laptop or all-in-one pc while the GTX660ti and HD6950 is a desktop graphic card. How the hell can he replace a mobile graphic card with a desktop graphic card which can't even fit in.

For motherboard, there is no good or bad. It depend on what processor and hardware stuff are you using. If you are not using overclocking processor, go for Asrock H71M-DGS. If you have a overclocking processor, go for ASROCK Z68 Extremee 3 Gen.

Basically, my com keep boot looping and I couldn't troubleshoot the problem myself. So he told me that the prob was with my mobo and gfx card. He told me the mobo can be fixed by replacing the capacitors and the HD6950 to be replaced with the 660ti. I said ok. Then a few days later, he said he didn't have a 660ti, so he claimed he had a 'newer and better' GT 740 for $25 more than the 660ti. I said that's not right cos even if I wanted the GT740, the price lists everywhere show that it's going for ~$180 only. So I told him to return me the fixed stuff without the gfx card.

And today I get the com back with a totally different mobo. I rage and so he claims he's gonna check with his guys where all my parts went, but assures me that the H71M-DGS is better than my old one.

I feel like I'm stepping deeper and deeper into **** lol

Ask them to reinstate everything, else turn to authorities.

You know what he told me on whatsapp when I told him about the prices? 'Why do you worry about the price range?' 'I don't bother what simlim prices are. They have their own ways of inflating'

Usually for boot looping is bad rams, not enough power in PSU (or PSU failure) or overheated CPU leh. Usually nothing to do with GFX..

Mobo is the last thing I suspect for this.

If mobos can be fixed simply by replacing capacitors, RMA would never take 6-8 weeks :s22::s22::s13:

Edit: Btw, a GT740 only costs $135 and comes with a proper 3-yr warranty :s22:

Well I guess I should have come here for advice first. Got lazy and wanted someone to do come to the house and fix it quick cos it was close to Christmas. I googled their company name and didn't find any bad reviews so I thought it'd be fine.

Just wondering though, did your rig came back fixed or is it still boot looping? Also, your mobo still got warranty left or not?

It's working (with the H71M-DGS mobo), that's why I didn't think to check inside until the delivery guy left. The mobo warranty just expired. 1 of my 4GB Kingston RAM also got replaced.

Is your old RAM the type with the heatspreader (ie 'Gaming' RAM) or the cheap one without heatspreader? The replacement RAM should be those cheap ValueRAM with no heatspreader, right?

The repair shop got change anything else (ie. PSU etc) or not?

Yup I had 2 x Kingston 4GB HyperX. One of them became a crucial without heatspreader apparently. Nothing else I think of. PSU, SSD, HDD are the same. He's telling me he'll get back to me by Monday on what happened. There goes another weekend without my com T.T
