Hi I’m from Australia and have been working here for about a month . Love the culture , the food and the people around . I have been volunteering as a social worker back home where I came from, and would be exploring for more volunteering opportunities here .

the topic surrounding depression seems to be less discussed here and I would like to put this thread up just in case anyone who is currently suffering from depression, have experience of going through depression , or you are also a fellow volunteer could touch base

slide a PM if there’s queries you would rather be private . I’m not a trained professional but happy to share my knowledge and experiences through my own volunteering experience

Hi I'm from Canada. I am familiar with how mental health used to be a taboo topic in Singapore. It's getting better now but still not in the mainstream as much as other countries.
Do you have any experience with sitting for psychedelic assisted psychotherapy eg using Psilocybin or MDMA for patients with treatment resistant depression?

I’m a volunteer and not a clinical professional . I have spoken to many and unfortunately some didn’t return for their subsequent sessions which I was later told , something bad happened . I understand the dark side of this condition and wish to be a positive light to anyone going through

I'm little curious about the coincidence between the age of your account and your one month stay in SG.

What prompted you to open a hardwarezone account almost immediately upon arrival?

So hi Montague.

What do u mean by volunteer as a social worker?

Are u trained as a qualified social worker in Australia?

I dont think there is such thing as volunteered as social workers in Singapore. U r a volunteer or u are not. You are a social worker or you are not.

U mentioned you are not trained. Then how can u call yourself a social worker. So what are u trained for?

Have you considered people didn't return because they realized the sessions were futile, and therapists or volunteers like yourself are just regurgitating standard textbook counselling which provides zero insight to what they are going through?

Like what can you help to someone who's depressed because of life circumstances like poverty, sickness, or deeper pessimistic isssues like life's impermanence or nihilistic idealisation. If these sessions do help, there wouldn't be almost a million people commiting suicide each year.
