my humble 2 cents.
if you just want to read. the cheapest one will do just fine.
but one will appreciate having the backlight on the paperwhite.

my vote goes to paperwhite simply because of the backlight. i had both before fyi... backlight is really useful.

Hi guys, I just wanted to know your opinion, this is my first time buying a Kindle and which do you think is better, the 8th Gen or Paperwhite? aside from the backlight, does the resolution really matter? I haven't seen a Kindle closely and I'm not familiar with it, so I can't tell whether the resolution is great in reading distance.

I have seen local sellers on both items, each comes with bundled screen protectors and case at $138 for the 8th Gen and $198 for the Paperwhite, is it worth getting the Paperwhite or shall I just get away with the 8th Gen?

I would strongly advise against getting the basic Kindle if money is not the issue. The Paperwhite is a lot more usable as it is lit. There is no need to get a screen protector if you have a cover/protection of some sort.

Thanks for all the comments guys, the kindle itself comes with screen protector bundled as part of the deal, the case/cover however is not. I have decided and will buy the paperwhite.

The screen will work fine for a few years, no issue. Unless you drop it without a cover. In which case the screen may break immediately. Like the iPhone X without a cover.

Hi,

I've bought the kindle paperwhite after reading reviews and suggestions here in this thread and others. I've got mine in carousell, the lowest price on the links you've posted is from lazada, it has the same price as mine, but I've got extra freebies from the (carousell) seller. I'm interested in getting another one since the one I bought was for my wife.

I am wondering if I use phone (Samsung Note 8) and app, can I read ebooks? Possible to achieve maybe like 80% of Kindle or Paperwhite effect?

Why don't just use phone to read ebooks? Read on phone screen too tired?

Thanks.

For me, I'm new to kindle so I can say that kindle doesn't have glaring effect like regular phones/tablets, so it's less straining to the eye. Kindle is also exclusive for reading books, so less internet or notification equals less disturbance.

Anyway, about the phone app, I am using eReader Prestigio.

Is it install eReader Prestigio and can read all ebooks made for kindle? Phone+eReader Prestigio=Kindle substitute with more glare.

Anything app to reduce glare? Phone seems more convenient when going out, bring one device only.

Yup, you just install from the app/play store, the app has a setting to turn the background into black (night) mode to minimize glare. I have installed the kindle app last night and it works same as the kindle ereader, files can be sent to the kindle user email and it will sync to the phone.

kindle app you mean this correct https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.kindle&hl=en

eReader Prestigio app and kindle app, what is the difference?

yup, that's right. you download and see for yourself, I have been using the prestigio for almost a month and I recently installed kindle last night, both works great, it depends on your files and convenience, prestigio can read epub while kindle can't, prestigio can access your phone storage while kindle needs to receive the files using the "send to kindle" method.

I have a question regarding the new oasis.

For the old oasis, we were supplied with a cover that acts as battery backup for the oasis unit. Itseems that this new oasis doesn't come bundled with a cover, which has to be purchased separately. Does it mean that all the rechargeable battery is now stored within the unit itself and not on the cover?

I'm debating if I should also order a cover, which is nearly US$60. Sigh.

Hi can share where to order the new oasis 2? Interested to buy, thanks.

You can get it direct from amazon.com and use something like comgateway.com to do the forward packaging.

^ This is exactly what I did for my new Oasis 2.

I didn't buy the official cover because it has 2-star reviews & everyone seems to hate it. :s13: I can't find any 3rd-party covers yet either...
