Hi guys,

Recently I've bought a few items from Amazon, used FREE shipping to Singapore delivery options. When I checkout, the total estimated tax is ZERO. I am quite surprised and went to check how tax is calculated and found this:

The amount of tax charged on your order will depend upon many factors including Identity of the seller, type of item purchased, and destination of the shipment. Factors can change between the time you place an order and the time of credit card charge authorization, which could affect the calculation of sales taxes. The amount appearing on your order as Estimated Tax may differ from the sales taxes ultimately charged.

Does that mean I am still liable to pay tax later on?
Supposed I bought 2 items with total of SGD 260, how much will my tax be?
So far they have not deducted money yet.

First time buying form Amazon, i am sure many here have bought from there and pls enlighten me on tax calculation =:p

All taxes will be automatically included to the bill. You just need to choose free global shipping if applicable and pay. No further payment required.

Check the invoice before payment and you can see one line for the item cost. Another line for shipping cost. Another for tax if applicable. Followed by the total cost.

If item plus freight below $400 = no tax

FYI, the section you quoted is specific to Sales Tax as shown on this page, which applies to US domestic orders and doesn't apply to purchases from SG. Estimated Tax Collected will always be $0 if you are shipping to SG.

What we are liable for is under "Import Fees Deposit" aka GST if the total cost of goods +shipping comes up to more than S$400. Here's an example:

This is the link to read the T&Cs relating to Import Fees Deposit (too much text to quote): https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=14309551&pop-up=1

I see. Thanks for directing me to right section.

I don't have the line 'Import Fees Deposit' on my bill. Probably it's bcos my total amount does not exceed SGD400.:s13:
