AMD CPU for gaming rig?

Hey guys, was planning to start a rig by looking around the recommendations, did a small research and AMD CPUs are not that bad either, considering the GPU given, given that my ultimate aim is to build a light gaming system

What puzzle me the most is why no one bothers to recommend AMD

is it because of the limited range??

Also I've been passed down an old rig which probably run on dual core, haven't really checked yet.
I need to source for CPU+Mobo+Monitor
rest is provided, any recommendations?

From what I gather... they seem to cost more locally, unless u get it on Amazon. Plus their APUs seems to perform around Intel's I3.

AMD CPU not as available as Intel CPU here, and the cost ratio of AMD:Intel CPU, AMD is significantly higher here as compared to the US.

Hmm.. maybe slight bandwagon ba. And I can tell you that many of us here don't buy a rig JUST to game.
Also, I think maybe the motherboard features on Intel chips are probably more appealing.

Can anyone can point out a straight forward comparison from performance and price wise, using AMD A10 6800K as one, Price with mobo is around $280 ( Cheapest )
I'm sorry as i have zero knowledge about computers, all I have is what I read on bias reviews

The Fx series is way better compared the amd apus for gaming

I'm guessing I wouldn't want to research on the FX series, since I hardly see it available, If its a comparison of the I-series, why not just look at the I-series itself

If u can hold off, might wanna wait for AMD's Kaveri APU which is slated for release in Q1 2014 instead...

APU's iGPU isn't meant so much for rendering graphics as it is for parallel computing. Next-gen games on the new consoles will definitely leverage on the power of it given their architecture. (eg. lotsa ray tracing)

Traditionally in order for GPUs to do GPGPU compute work, data needed to be copied over to the GPU memory, but this is very time consuming and inefficient. APU solves this problem by allowing the iGPU to directly read and write data without any transfers being made.

U may wanna look up HSA if u wanna find out more

The only thing you can compare with the i5 would be the FX series. Probably an FX 6300 and above.

And yes. I'm in search for a FM3+ board for my next budget gaming rig project somewhere in dec. Gonna see how Steamroller works, hopefully something economical and also comparable to intel chips.

For now, i suggest you go take a look for intel chips first if you are planning to build a com real soon. Unless you wanna wait for SR to roll out.

Power Efficiency not so good. In the long run, you pay more $ on your Electricity bill..
