AMD announces Radeon R9 285 with Tonga GPU | VideoCardz.com

weaker than the 280/7950 it replaces at the same price tag, WTF?
And give confusing 285 name to trick us?

7950 is sho old liao, AMD not even a hint of their new GPU in their 30 Yr anniversary segment.

While Nvidia have Maxwell GPU selling.

And most importantly is that you don't have to buy it...

Must understand not everyone go research benchmark performance mah.
Most silly layman just think new model and high model number = better.
Cheat the clueless layman money.

From what I'm seeing it's standard 7970 performance at GTX760 price ... Remember, SLS isn't exactly the best place for price reference at launch ;)

If it doesn't need 256bit it won't need. Look at Nvidia's lineup lor. Higher bit bus makes it more complicated design wise and more power hungry

In the same article you posted you do notice that the price is lower than its comparative old models so they cut price performance is about the same. I'd hold my horses :)

I feel its too early to conclude if this card stinks at this point.

Case in point is Nvidia's GTX 750Ti vs 650Ti. If AMD made fundamental improvements to the chip, then it might perform well.
