What's the different between Socket AM2 and 939? Which one is better?

The diff is Am2 uses DDR2 Ram while 939 uses ddr... theortically AM2 shld be better cause it uses DDR2 ram n future upgrade option.. but when u comparing the same processor of the same spec but diff socket.. the performance gain is very small

Ok did you try to boot with the Live CD? If you are able to - boot with it and choose the install now option and see if this helps? Which version of Ubuntu you trying out? Other possible solutions are:
