The true is CPU wars is over, the way I see it
is that in the future AMD is heading
towards custom chip production.
Like in Sony PS4/Xbox One and there are other
products like Digital signage TV which are using
AMD APU to run.
Intel have and always dominate the CPU market
so not likely to be overtaken by any other competitors.
Intel target market is PC but AMD is moving away from PC.
In summary in PC world, AMD have lost and
now trending towards semi-conductor so not PC only.

Disclaimer:
Not a AMD fan/staff here, if any mod not happy with me
than just ban me cuz I have mention I will not post here
anymore.

It is funny that a thread like this already people are condemning it rather than adopt the wait and approach.

Just wait and see what is to happen loh. I mean no point saying that zen will flop when the things are not even out, not even tested, not even benched. Although yes they can hype all they want, but you guys just put not even one doubt that it will straight go to a drain.

Just wait and see.

Just by switching from BD CMT over to Intel SMT will guarantee at least comparable performance between both camps. Will AMD resurrect from the grave and jump on Intel? That's the real show.
Zen in dictionary: relaxed and not *worrying about things that you cannot *change
Hmmmm maybe Zen is not about competing with Intel. If cannot change, then just follow la.
According to the rumours and news, the 1st CPU on AM4 is still based on Excavator aka BullDoze-r. AM4 Zen will only arrive in late 2016. So it will be a long wait.

Would help if Intel stopped playing tricks with their compilers.

the way i see it, amd dosen't have to try and best intel in performance. if they can have comparable performance to intel while costing less, than it'll be a win for then alr. after all, theres alot more people buying budget to mid-range cpu(fx 6300,i5 4460) than top end cpus(i7 5960x)

AMD Thunderbird CPU was ahead of Intel for a few months.

They need to rethink on how do faster with less i.e. less transistors, and do more. Not going to win Intel in Intel's strategy of shrinking die size and pack in more transistors.

Actually, I rather AMD abandon CPU and GPU and just concentrate on embedded. Their custom SOC dept is actually making alot of money.

PC market is just too small and its dying. Mobile is growing very fast.

I feel that either way, AMD is still doomed unless they receive a cash injection via another mega company.

1) If AMD continues to fight on all fronts, it needs a huge cash injection for R&D research. Zen is a way to fight back Intel, and Greenlands GPU may stand a chance against Nvidia's Pascal. But the funds seemed to have been overstretched that only allows AMD to be on par with competition, can't be ahead of competition else the other sector will die. Even in SOC, it is currently facing competition from Nvidia's Tegra and Intel's Atom. Being stretched on all fronts without the freedom to maneuver due to budget constraints will eventually let AMD's competitors dominate in the various sectors that AMD's products are in.

2) Selling off their GPU and CPU sectors to big companies like Samsung (or Apple or Microsoft, if they are interested) may also backfire on AMD. These giant tech companies have the means and finances to buy over AMD's massive GPU and/or CPU sectors, but unfortunately these are also the big players in the market. Suppose AMD decides to sell to Samsung (the most likely scenario given Samsung's financial power), Samsung would then be further vertically integrated especially in the mobile division, deploying AMD's CPU technology in making the its own SOC chip more powerful and energy efficient. This may undercut AMD's move in the SOC market.

At least we get to know who are the "IT" and "Business"
guru here.
Anyway this topic is not about CPU wars, it's more
towards target market.
Btw does anyone know that actually AMD produce
and sells ARM chip also? :s11:

The folks in HWC are on different area of knowledge and interest, not the same group from other forums. :)

I'm not surprised about their knowledge and abilities to analyze the situation and business direction of Intel/AMD. Ones does not need to be an expert to comments, understood the topic and raise relevant points are the key substances. :)
