AMD's Zen-based Ryzen and Threadripper have been said by the company as representing the "worst case scenario" of performance for their architecture. This is based on the fact that there are clear areas for improvement that AMD's engineers were keenly aware of even at the moment of Zen's tapping-out; inadvertently, some features or improvements were left on the chopping block due to time and budget constraints. As unfortunate as this is - who wouldn't love to have even more performance on their AMD processors - this also means AMD has a clear starting point in terms of improving performance of their Zen micro-architecture.

Spanish website Informatica Cero have gotten their hands on what they say is an exclusive, real piece of information from inside AMD, which shows the company's CPU roadmap until 2019, bringing some new details with it. On the desktop side, there's mention of AMD's "Pinacle Ridge" as succeeding the current Zen-based "Summit Ridge" Ryzen CPUS in 2018. These leverage the same Summit Ridge architecture, but with a performance uplift; this plays well into those reports of 12 nm being used to manufacture the second-generation Ryzen: it's an AMD tick, so to say. As such, the performance uplift likely comes from increased frequencies at the same power envelope, due to 12 nm's denser manufacturing design.

More like excuses lor... Which company doesn't want to showcase the best of their product especially when this is their last lifeline?

And what about the claim they put forth previously?

AMD has reportedly finished testing on their new Zen CPU core designs, saying that the design has "Met All Expectations" with no "Significant Bottlenecks"

On another note, that slide is also telling consumers Raven Ridge APU will be PUSHED to 2018... :(

Chances are they can troll consumers just like Intel.

Will maintain socket doesn't mean will maintain compatibility....

Actually i don't mind what they did on AM3+.

As in, they can allow AM3 CPUs to be on AM3+ mobos. This way they can allow users to use their own CPUs and move to a "better" featured mobo.

I hope they aren't like intel kabylake to kopilake. Same socket yet unable to migrate over.

AMD also allowed AM3 CPUs (DDR3) to be used on some AM2 boards. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 which is AM2 and using DDR2 but can also take the Phenom II 1090T, which is AM3. Kudos to AMD for allowing such compatibility.

At least historically, AMD don't seem to pull a fast one out of their customers by introducing "new" chipset and sockets with minimal incremental value. If the socket works, AMD tend to retain it.

The way it was worded. As if all the current ryzen owners bought intentionally crippled/incomplete chips.

It's more of a business decision passed down by the pointy hair management folks to tweak the socket to force people change mobo.

Technically, they may not even need to do that. But they will invent an excuse to justify the new socket.

Looking forward to Raven Ridge also. Not sure if it was ever made explicit that Desktop APU would be in 2017 but sad to see it now confirmed as 2018.

Now have to wait a long time as I don't need dGPU but looking for a good integrated graphics solution.

Maybe Intel is the better way to go as at least you can get mobo with Thunderbolt 3.
