So what fit did you guys go for? Comfort? Also I have read that there are 2 ways of taking the ear impression, mouth open and closed. Do you guys recommend open or close mouth? Sorry for the many questions, first time getting CIEM. Thanks. :o

musician fit is no longer available...

But 8.A seem to have better reviews?

If and when I take the plunge into high-end customs, it will be 8.A..

:D

I only can say, I choose JH16 due to it's new implementation of freqphase and it's promo pricing... sadly to say, Heir audio pricing is not as competitive even with promo and most importantly still need to pay GST... faintz...

Maybe will get Heir audio when I earn more in the future ba... HAHHA...

Oh thanks for the clarifications. Did you have your impression taken with your mouth open or close?

I did 3 times with open mouth impressions...

from my point of view, open mouth impressions are better as most of the time we listen to ciem with our mouth closed, our ear canal will clench onto the ciem made from open mouth impressions giving a better seal and isolation...

hmmm... my JH16 with single colour artwork cost me 979.2usd, no GST incurred...

most user changed to other cables for 8.A and 975usd excludes 7% GST...
(but i must say heir audio's craftsmanship is really impressive)

I was thinking of a simple design using a transparent shell and a light colour wood face plate or black carbon fibre? What do you guys think?

For me, coming from the JH13 pro, the merlin didn't impress me that much. Soundstage and bass would go to the Merlin, but they sounded a little veiled, recessed and dry on the whole. Can tell the merlins were aiming for a specific presentation but seemed to fall short in most aspects. With the Heir 8.A in the picture, lets just say, the gap is even wider. Soundstage is still comparable with 8.A, but bass not nearly as enjoyable. And if you find Merlin's bass too much, may need to consider elsewhere cos 8.A's bass is comparable if not more so, in quantity and quality. But given how precise the bass is delivered, you might actually like it more than Merlin's bass delivery.

got to agree with you but it being recessed and dry... would only remind me of the epic fail demo unit that was used to be @ Stereo. :s13::s13:
