Android apps running in the background when not open.

First time smart phone user here,

I'm wondering why the default facebook process and watsapp runs on the background even after I close it?

Are there some feature in facebook that require a constant running process? Is it because there will be notification if someone message me on facebook thus the constant process is needed?

go to settings > storage > Apps >"running" will tell you what is running..

Whatspp running else you wont get any notification messages, facebook perhaps you have notification on when you have an update you can disable it

That's how Android works. Some apps will still run in the background even after you close them.

I was wondering if there are any special needs that it required to have the process always on..so far I haven't tried if the facebook app will show notification even when I close it or not...or else there is no need for the process to keep running...bad developing practice?

Anyway not much of a problem..just curious why if is normal.

It's not bad development. Social apps like Facebook and Whatsapp will constantly run in the background so that it can check for new updates and messages. If Whatsapp does not run in the background, it cannot check for new messages and you'll never be notified of any new messages from your friends until you open the app.
