I'm thinking of buying a head unit that has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

If I buy a third party head unit (I can see a few cheap units available in US, will buy once we can all travel again :) ) Can local shops install it and make the steering wheel controls work?

Shouldn't be an issue if you get the necessary wiring harness.

Will need an interface box to connect the head unit to the steering wheel buttons. Those audio shops usually will have those. When I changed out my stock head unit, the workshop managed to wire up the steering wheel buttons too

got to read the specifications properly.
USA i think is similar to Japan.
Radio frequencies are all ending with odd number. meaning you cannot tune in to 95.0 or 92.0. only XX.1 XX.3 XX.5 XX.7 XX.9.

think also the starting and ending range maybe different.

USA radio is on digital broadcasting already. We are still analog system. (That's at least 5 years or more as 5 years ago I was in USA).
