Well dun get this into your head yet. Although I have seen some post of some user manage to bring it back to live, as for how truth is that I have not verified (even though I have not tried rooting->brick->and back to live yet )

Xda is a good forum with step by step guides.

While benefits can be seen - smoother frames / less bloat / possibilities of overclocking, rooting and flashing a custom rom can cause instability if not done correctly.
