Want to check if anybody encounter similar situation before.

I had a 3 yrs home insurance expired in Feb 2020. Prior to that, I received some reminders to renew but since I had already took on another home insurance from another provider, I just ignored the reminders thinking that the policy would lapse after Feb.

Sometime in Mar 2020, i received an email notification from AXA thanking me for making the payment and renewing the policy. I was shocked and had to intention to confront AXA if they made unauthorized transaction on my cc without my consent. But after checking with my bank & cc accounts, i confirmed no reduction was made. I gave the matter a rest and ignored the notification.

Then now every couple of months in Jun, Sep and latest yesterday, I kept receiving AXA statement of account letters, stating that I am owing them premium since Feb and I ought to make payment immediately.

These letters are getting on my nerve but I refused to entertain such letters by officially engaging them because in my view, the policy should have lapsed in Feb when I didn't make payment for the premium.

Wondering if anybody had similar encounter or if AXA has any rights on me to make payment, etc? I dnt remember there was any auto renewal clause when I signed with them 3 years ago.. and shouldn't non payment of premium resulted in termination of the policy? why are they so insistent that I pay up.

“but I refused to entertain such letters by officially engaging them”

???

So you are saying you don’t want to come across as officially engaging them hence you chose not contact them to tell them to cease and cease?

Your answer is above. Virtually every insurer makes has an auto-renewal clause (why wouldn't they? its good business for them). For some its even worse, they will auto-deduct, so at least AXA doesn't auto-deduct (or maybe they tried - which is why they sent you the 'payment has been made' letter, but payment didn't go through).

I never understood those that say that they 'refuse to engage' the insurer /bank whatever, because they believe they are in the 'right' and the insurer/ bank is wrong.. or they feel they will 'lose face' if they engage the bank/insurer...

For example, there are some posters in the credit card forum where they claim since they disagree with the bank charges, they will refuse to engage the bank about it and just ignore the debt, since they are no longer using the card. Good luck to them. =:p

I had an auto-renew insurance policy before. I just sent the insurer an e-mail, I do not wish to renew. Full-stop. They never disturb me again. I don't feel any 'loss of face' doing so. :s13:

so true.... being strong on principled doesn't work unless you can keep it up on the legal front

Hmm.. ok. Seeing the replies so far. I probably will try to contact them next wk..

Just that i had other insurance such as personal accident or health with other provider, the moment i stop payment at the next renewal, the policy will just lapsed and no hassel or auto renewal from the insurance company.

YMMV with different companies.

One not doing doesn’t mean others wouldn’t.

You will be on the losing end of such “principled” moment.

Nobody is asking you to pay, you are just contacting them to tell them to cease and decease. Don’t see what loss you have there.

GE did the same to my home insurance without my acknowledgement too. They have price increase some more but proceed to bill without sending me a new price/contract.

Those use credit card with insurance company (or any payment system) may want to take note.
