Last year, I had UTI and was prescribed ciprofloxacin. I later learned that this class of antibiotics, called floroquinolones, has terrible side effects including neurological effects and paralysis. FDA put a black box warning on this class of antibiotics. Doctors should not prescribe cipro for UTI for simple UTI infection.

Anyone in the medical field care to comment?

Did you encounter any bad side effects for you to comment on this?

For my case, I was prescribed Augmentin.

No, I didnt. I happened to come across this lady who suffered very serious neurological effects from the drug. By the way, if you didnt have any side effects the first time, it doesn't mean you won't the second and subsequent times.

Doctor can anyhow diagnose? Or do you think I am lying? If so, let it be. I don't have to prove anything to you. If you have nothing relevant to comment, just keep your mouth shut. No wonder people say this forum is toxic but I didnt know it is this toxic.
Now if you have that much faith in the doctor's diagnosis, then just be equally trusting of his prescription then

The thing is, different doctor prescribes different antibiotics. I actually raised my concern to the doctor when I went to see him again. He kept quiet.

Him keeping quiet might not be a sign of him hiding something but exasperation at all the google doctors/pharmacists he has to deal on a daily basis... If you are REALLY uncomfortable with the medication, next time just try telling doctors you were prescribed this before and body didn't react well to it.

According to Google.

Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including UTIs, respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), skin infections, bone infections, infectious diarrhea, and to prevent anthrax

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic occasionally used to treat specific bacterial STDs like gonorrhea (if susceptible) and chancroid.
