I'm going to use the tablet for a little of everything (surfing web, videos, games, notes etc). I'm only looking at WiFi only ones, my budget is S$500.
Currently looking at 16GB iPad mini or iPad 2, Acer Iconia A1, Asus Memo Pad Smart 10 (I'm leaning 2wards this, but I'm still not certain), Nexus 7
And other recommendations?
Thanks :D

if your budget is S$500, like what Mah Bow Tan says, go for the maximum you can go.

don't need to look at Iconia A1 that is half of your budget. unless you buying 2. :s13:

Thanks 4 advice sinicker
But the thing I feel is that many tablets sold here are either cheap and too low spec for my liking, or good but too expensive. Not many tablets fall within the mid-range specs. (Maybe other than N7)

In your list, u have 7", 7.9", 8", 9.7" and 10.1" tablets! And both Android as well as IOS.

I think u need to explore, research and try out as many tablets as u can (borrow or try at shops) so that u can at least narrow down the size and OS u prefer based on your intended usage otherwise u will never be able to choose from the dozens of different tablets available in the market

If u just want a cheap tablet to play around with, u can just get any MIC $100 tablet. But because yr budget is $500, u shd do proper research before committing.

"Affordable" is also relative. $500 for a 7" wifi tablet is expensive but $500 for a 9.7" or 10.1" might be considered reasonable

Intend to get one also. Is the sale over? When n which branch u get it from?

Thanks.

may want to read this first b4 getting the nexus 7:-

One year later, the Nexus 7 has gone from the best to worst tablet I’ve ever owned | Android and Me

what is interesting is how many of the commenters agree with the writer!

i don't own the nexus 7 but what i have personally experienced is that, on at least 2 occasions i have found the touch screen to be unresponsive in the demo tablets at Challenger and Harvey Norman. seems like it cant handle heavy usage

I am considering between getting the Acer iconia a1 and the samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 for my father. It'll probably be used for web surfing, reading ebooks and light gaming. Both are going for $249. The tab 2 comes with free book case and stylus and 16gb microsd card from Challenger though.

Specs wise, the iconia a1 is 1 year newer and has superior specs. Not sure about real world performance though.
