Presently using the iPad mini with wifi only & will be passing it to my wife. Thinking of getting an Android based tablet but would prefer one with wifi only. Would appreciate it if anyone can give me some recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Budget: as long as I think it's good, I'll pay. For these mini tablets, max should be $800 if not cheaper right?

Display size about 7 - 8 inches should be OK I reckon.

Thanks! For text input should be able to my fingers right? Or do I need to use the pen that comes with it?

For Note 8.0, you can use fingers for text input. The stylus comes in handy for taking notes or illustration.

There are many other models but these are my personal recommendations:

7"
- Nexus 7 2013 edition ( 16/32gb )

8"
- Tab 3 8.0 ( slimmer, cheaper )
- Note 8.0 ( better hardware, more expensive )

7-8" standard 4:3 (aka 'square'/ipad screen form factor) or widescreen? Each has their own advantages depending on the usage type.

4:3 would be more suited to books/pdf and web browsing whereas widescreen is catered better for video viewing.
