Any full rig recommendations for 1.2k?

My friend is looking to build a PC around 1.2k, i am going to build it for him.

However i don't build PCs often and not if the times have changed.. i used to obtain my parts from e-commerce as they were cheaper after discount codes etc.. i am not sure about the current situation.

Only monitor and tower rig is required, thanks again hwz community.

Monitor cheap cheap one like Dell SE2417HG or Samsung S24F350HE or LG 24MP48HQ. Price range within $150.

For CPU, you can go super cheap out like H310 with i3 and use Intel HD or B350 with AMD Ryzen 3 2200G if you ever wanna try esports games.

Spot for 2nd hand parts too. Recently saw a 2400G with Asrock AB350M PRO4 for $300. Which is pretty good value and good to consider. 8gb ram will do you good.

Get the cheapest 240gb ssd you can hunt within $90 or lesser.

These should be less than $1000 with monitor included for someone who uses very little com.

Emm no? Games rely more on gpu not the cpu. There are still plenty of i5 4460s which is currently 4 years old running latest AAA games fine. I'm sure there are still some ivy bridge/Sandy bridge era CPUs, the non oc-able ones, still running the same stuff fine with a modern gpu and those have been out since 2011 - 7 years.

That said, OC used to cost a premium due to Intel's marketing strategy - cpu locking. With ryzen, all chips are oc-able since day 1. All you need is a decent b350 motherboard to support the OC which frankly speaking costs peanuts when compared with intel since you don't have to pair with a more expensive OC-able k series chip, a z series motherboard and CPU coolers since Intel don't give you one on their k series.

Ryzen APU which is actually decent for e-sports title, ticks all the box for a decent oc-able chip which doesn't cost a bomb. Even the bundled cooler yields decent OC results. Users who are clueless about OC can forgo about it but at least there's an option for them in the future unlike Intel.

Ryzen chips are OC-able out of the box. A b350/ b450 board would be more than sufficient for TS needs since his usage is generally more basic, and leaning towards games.

The AIO isn’t a necessity. Reason being is that the included wraith cooler does provide some decent active cooling on the power phases on pretty much all of the mobo, to justify its OC potential. However it does cater to lower TDP so temps wise, the difference will definitely be noticeable.

By going the 6 core 12 thread route, it’s already future proofing for TS if games support multiple cores in the near future, which app developers may consider due to the core race.

That said, if TS is solely aiming for esports at 1080p 60hz, AMD’s APU paired with higher clocked ram sticks would be the optimal route to go for. Just do some basic tweaking by following some guides on YT to leverage on the performance.

PS: gaming does not refer to the need to OC. Though if the OC potential is there for the taking at no extra cost, utilise it.

To be honest.. ryzen can't hit gaming potential of 8 gen intel even if you OC it comparing similar price chip.. i know this because i have a ryzen 1600x and 1800x.. the overclocking potential is very limited and not worth the additional risks and costs of OC at all.

The gaming performance is also unable to par with intel 8th gen as well. Ryzen is a good CPU for productivity and tasks because of its high core n thread count and high benchmark numbers. For gaming, it's not the best.

Anyway all these aside.. back to original topic.. just came out with all these.
