I got long term flu and have giddy spells now and then.
Went to see doc and they always give me the same medicine.
Makes me very weak and drowsy after eating their medicine.

Thinking for giving TCM a try. But I know quite a number of black sheeps.

Thanks all replies.

Went to the one at Upp Thomson.
The doc told me my flu is still "inside" and I have many "hot" qi.
He just took my pulse and look at my tongue.
2 servings of medicine. Told them I dunno how to "cook", so they gave me in powder satchels. Whopping 19 satchels cause 19 diff herbs.
Price also not cheap. $13.50 per serving.
2 servings = $31....Not sure how they arrive that figure.

Plus I gave $20 in a hongbao to the doc for the consultation. They told me no standard charge. Just give hongbao. I stupid gave $20.

Add together like $50!!

TCM takes a longer time to show their beneficial effects so u have to be patient.

Getting the flu' too often & having giddy spells certainly isn't a good sign. My personal experience is that going to western doctors, even specialists, may not get rid of the real problem - and the worst part is that western medicine in Singapore is centered around drugs which obviously have side effects.

On the other hand, gg to see a good TCM practitioncer recommended by friends, colleagues or relatives who have had success with them, would be a much better choice.

In my case, I had pretty bad allergic rhinitis (commonly known as sinus problems in S'pore); had 2 surgeries by the ENT to remove polyps, which didn't solve the problem + loads of anti-histamines.

In the end, I consulted a TCM fr the Parkway Group more than a decade back. The TCM practitioner was a visiting professor fr 1 of the China TCM Universities. Using accupuncture, cupping together with sachets of Chinese herbs, I was cured in about 8 mths & best of all no drugs at all....

Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I do have high tendency for running nose.
Especially if experience sudden change in temp.
Like if go for lunch outside hot, then enter air con in office....sure sneeze....and....sniffling liao.
But still manageable.

Last year my condition still under control.....thru frequent western medicine. But this starting year, it got quite bad.
So, thought of giving TCM a try. But need to find a good one as it is for long term. So I posted here.
If I'm not desperate, I won't even bother.
It is affecting my work too.
I also started going for a short run yesterday. Hope to work my lungs and body a bit.
I hope it helps.

If you do have a good TCM doc to recommend, do post here.
There are a lot of TCM opening island wide. Need to filter out those black sheeps. I do hope this thread will benefit Bro/Sis reading here.

I'm 37 male by the way. Getting old....but I see alot of ppl older than me but looks more healthy.

37 isn't old.... I'm 54 & still weight train intensely 3 times a week.

That having said, my advice would be check if Parkway or Eu Yan Sang still have their TCM specialists in Camden Medical Centre & Paragaon. If they have, then take it from there. They aren't cheap but to me, health is extremely important so I just paid for the treatment myself.

You may need to look at your lifestyle ie diet, exercise etc... as one gets older the more crucial these come into the equation to ensure one is both healthy & fit...

Good luck!

Hi,

The sinseh I recommended at Upp Thomson is good and reputable.
However, chinese medicine does not result in instant cures. You may need to see the sinseh a few times before cure. You should also ask for advice regarding food or drinks to avoid.
By the way, chinese herbs have gone up in price recently, probably due to poor weather conditions.
Anyway, if you want to try another sinseh, bear in mind that you might have to see him a few times before cure.
Take care.

Well...I'm truly ashamed.

I have to admit I don't exercise. Apart from walking.
I get away with it during my prime years (before 35). Now, I'm getting the ill effects.

Think I'll make a visit to Eu Yan Sang asap. Thanks!!

Hi Bro,

Just trying to understand TCM more.
I'm not looking at instant cures since my friend also say must slowly "tiao li".
I do agree I might have to see him a few more times.
Anyway, just seeking more opinions as TCM is still "grey" area here.

Yup, totally agree. TCM works but it isn't instant like western medication aka drugs which obviously have side effects.

One needs to give it a few weeks to feel the effects. In my case, IIRC, it was around the 3rd week or thereabouts that I felt better - post nasal drip lessened, no sneezing in the morning & between temperature extremes, much less mucus...

During the entire length of treatment, I was told to refrain from any cold drinks & 凉 stuff as the prof said my 阳气 was on the low side....

BTW, my consultation was 2 - 3 times a week. Luckily, the clinic's closing time was 8pm then...

Is Eu Yan Sang good? I have the impression that they are only interested to sell their products and don't offer other services such as cupping or accupuncture

I'm not talking about the normal Eu Yan Sang shops & clinics, I'm talking about their specialist clinic... not sure it they still have it anymore - it was located at Paragon & their TCM doctors were mostly fr China.

I understand on the specialist clinics. They have quite a few now, one is at NEX too. But end of the day, not sure having a related shop selling products will make them more hard-sell type.

Dunno but I guess e specialist clinics by virtue of their services would probably be more professional than those at the shops
