Any here do undervolt for GPU and CPU?

It's more like buying lambo then go dyno tuning so you get the better fuel/air mix for better efficiency at the same speed. Even if minus 1fps, what's the big deal when you get better thermals and less throttling?

For you to increase power, you need to adjust variables like advance timing and increase boost. Undervolting restricts the amount of boost the card is able to achieve because you are limited by power. You will always be limited by something. Undervolting does completely the opposite. You are allowing the card to work with a lower voltage and you are limited by that. Whether 1fps or 10fps difference, it depends on how much you prioritize thermals with your setup.

I think those people who buy premium cards are those who can afford to be carrot.

It's like buying a lambo with bodykit swee swee but dun know what is under the hood. Sales people say what just take in.

I undervolt and even run at higher boost clock speed using lesser power and lower temperature. Somemore mine is just the MSI Ventus, not the ROG Strix :s22:

Btw, main thing is i'm using a ITX case hence I want to reduce the thermals so that I have some peace and quiet when using my comp.

Lol at people that undervolt, is like pay premium buy lambogini then disable 2 engine cylinders because want to save petrol haha...

I see undervolting more of optimising for efficiency, the gpu curve set at 1100mV for 2050mhz boost doesn't mean it requires that amount to get 2050mhz. It's like the ECU settings set by manufacturer.

Want to talk about more power, OC lor. Different story already.

I only mentioned that because 90% of people dyno tunes for power. That itself is like an overclock.

Undervolting is like running RON95 for better fuel efficiency even though the rated power is for RON98. Less octane, less power, more mileage. I don't deny undervolting is more efficient but you're creating a second layer of restriction on top of the stock power limit. And some games hates undervolting and crashes straight to desktop. Of course if it does not have any issues, then go for it.

if your undervolt is crashing, its not stable.. undervolting can improve performance if u are hitting thermal limit. thats why its especially prevalent in laptops/sff. only this generation that nvidia and amd suddenly raise their power draw/heat output by so much and make undervolting more widespread. previously was vega and rdna which ppl got performance improvement from undervolting.
pascal is just crank gpu cores to max and play game

Definitely but some games can be isolated crashing like Apex Legends where vMin for GPU can throw you out to desktop. You can not crash for 99 games out there but you can crash for that 1 single game. The concept of stability is how much tolerance one have for issues like this. You can google and see how many people found out undervolting their GPUs even the older ones have caused crashes for Apex Legends.

Agree that TDP for the 3000 series is out of whack and it makes sense for undervolting if you are in a thermally limited case or concerned with power draw. But if you can be stable with undervolting for the games you play and prefer running less heat, noise and boost frequencies, then by all means. Efficient, yes. Optimal, depends on your priorities and limitations.

TLDR, Undervolting does not have any direct impact on your GPU untill there is some thermal throttling. Undervolting is good way to reduce GPU temp. and power consumption to maintain constant performance and should be preferred if your GPU temp. is hitting 75 C and you are thermally limited in your case and/or power supply.

RTX 3000 series is not exactly an efficient architecture given the power draw. Undervolting does not change this much despite running cooler. Power draw is also affected by things other than clock speed and voltage alone, but they definitely contribute.

Neither since I am water-cooled and only have a peak GPU temp of 43 degrees.

But if faced in a normal setup scenario, I will do a custom fan curve like I have always done with my air-cooler setups. Does not affect me since I use a headset during gaming and my PC is only switched on for that purpose. Plus, all the new coolers have much better fans which does not irritate or annoy you like the olden days where GPU fans sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

For me, it is dependant on the fan noise you can bear and what is the fan speed it is running for 78C.

If the fan is already > 85% and it is noisy, I will uv.

Before uv, check out what is the max clock speed and voltage the card is running and go from there.
