There is a Brother Hotel right outside Nanjing Fuxing MRT station. It looks affordable yet chic? Haven't tried it myself.

Stayed at ECFA Hotel Ximen in Taipei. Service was great and the staff were friendly.
The room looks new with high windows. Room size not too small but not too big, stayed at the 4 pax room for S$124 per night.
Free flow of bread and coffee available at lobby 24/7. Breakfast is included but it's at the ECFA Chengdu outlet. There's quite a variety of food available but standard was rather okay.

The good things is that it's conveniently located around Ximending area that a few minutes walk gets you to the busy Ximending shopping area.

Juz returned from taipei ytd, stayed at Boutique Capsule Inn which is opposite Sunrise Business hotel.
about SGD40 per night. Like japan capsule hotel concept. Good and clean enuf to sleep and go off. Only need to walk the long underground.

Can consider sun rise business hotel. Its a 10 mins walk to the main station and you can go through the underpass via the shopping mall.

You can try Hotel Relax II.

hotel relax and hotel relax II is nearby each other at taipei main station
checked their price before, cheapest managed to find is 83sgd per room for two with breakfast. their room super small think abt 16m2 ...
just like other 3 stars hotel in taipei, their sizes abt 12 to 20m2
