Is this a factory defect? I'm also having this problem about a month ago. My i5 was bought in September last year and barely 6 months old got this issue.

Are they going to change to a brand new i5 for me? Must bring to the designated service centre only?

Thank you.

Apple has a lot of problems with both power button and home button simce iphone 3gs days. They are not gonna change a new set for u. Is a refurb set. But as good as new set. They will rectify the fault of the phone from the previous owner. Change the battery if need to. And replace a new housing.

My 4S also has power button stuck issue. It just stuck and can't move, even with plier. If the phone battery run out of juice, tat's it. Cant even power on. :(

It is out of warranty. I guess have to diy to repair - via tutorial fr utube. The part costs about $6 fr ebay. Get it b4 dismantling as this is a big project, gotta take out the mainboard & many sm all parts. I hope i can do it. :o

Can use software alternative - Go to Settings->Accessibility->turn on the Assistive Touch

Can try solution posted by another member a while back, can't find the thread now. Worked for my 3GS. Get alcohol pad from pharmacy. Power off phone. Press alcohol pad on home button so alcohol can seep into the phone for a while. Wait for alcohol to evaporate before powering on and testing. As in my case may need to do it for a few cycles.

:s11:

mind to ask is there any way to turn on the phone using assistive touch without pressing the home button and power button?

I do know just press once...you can lock the phone on standby by assistive touch ...under lock function ~

Just went to 313 and changed mine just now. iOS 6.0.1. They will change a set for you until you are satisfied with the physical condition. Quite happy with their service today, CSO was very friendly too.

same thing here... press right/center not working must press left side to trigger the button...

already called apple support and got a case no.

only thing is if i bring to m1 to swap i'm afraid the iOS version will be the latest one which means no jb :(

oh and there are dents/scuffs/scratches along the side and the apple cust service lady said that if i drop my phone (as evident from the cosmetic damage to the sides) the button issue will no longer be covered under warranty :(

plus i recently bought a glas.tr screen protector for quite ex... if i swap means i must discard the SP :s22: waste money sia...

just the phone itself will do..it depends on the time you go down. mine was about 2pm on a weekday and i waited for about 10mins before my turn came.

You don't have to bring everything with you. Just the iPhone will do. And nope. They don't give you a new box, just the iPhone by itself.

deciding whether i should get my power button fixed.

i'm afraid that my glas.tr protector won't re-adhere nicely :s22: then waste of $50+ :(

and i'm scared the iOS version is the latest one 6.1.3 which means no jb :(

and if my phone is jb now means i have to factory reset before swapping right?

Just to share, late last year I also had a similar issue with my 4S power button and it's also out of warranty as well. So I sold it and bought myself a new 4S in Jan this year. In the end the difference I paid is still cheaper than getting a refurbished unit.
