Any mirrorless camera to recommend?

Interested to get a mirrorless camera. Am new to this range of camera, so any recommendations for which model or brands to look at? TIA!

A camera from different format is like a Brain inside a Head, what makes the images pop out differently will be the 6/6 eyes versus 6/9 eyes.

In this simple term, you will know your choice of a making good images depends on the quality of the lens manufacturer, I am for M43 (MicroFourThirds). Thus Panasonic and Olympus would be what I recommend.

I am also deciding between Panasonic GX7 and Olympus EM10. It seems that the price of a new GX7 with kit lens is now very attractive at barely $1.3k.

It is a good choice to get the GX7 with the 14-140 zoom lens instead of the standard 20mm f1.7 pancake? Can't have both as I have a budget of max $1.6k.

as a beginner, you want to go straight for the high end models?

regarding the IQ, i have no comment as I'm a normal user who doesnt edit my photos or do "pixel peeping". So i wouldnt be able to see the diff as they are both very good.

i have the e-pl5 and GM1 (mid-tier models)

if I were to choose, i would choose the 20mm lens because i rarely zoom and the IQ of the 20mm lens is superb. It depends on your photo-taking habits.


All my lens are prime lens; I have the Panasonic 20mm f.17, Olymous 45mm f.18 and Samyang 7.5mm fisheye lens

If you aren't a serious hobbyist photographer and won't be using the full features of the camera you are better off saving your money and getting an entry level Samsung. They are cheap, easy to use and produce decent images. Fuji or Sony would be the ones I recommend if you want a camera to start learning photography instead of just leaving it in AUTO mode. Canon do not do mirrorless options very well compared to any of these.

Why do you want mirrorless specifically?

The colours on the JPEG is what you see with your eyes.

My camera journey thus far:

Nikon D40 -> Canon 400D -> Olympus EP-1 -> Panasonic G3 -> Canon EOS M2

In my cabinet today, I have the G3 and EOS M2.

All I can say is this. All of the above produce significantly better IQ than your normal PnS.

For the next jump in IQ, you have to ditch your kit lens and go into primes. In that case, you should realise that mirrorless primes are way more expensive than DSLR's, for the same kind of performance you get. That is the hurt from having a smaller form factor.

The only exception is Canon's EF-M, but that's because it's so unpopular.

I don't have a single zoom lens.

Different lens will have different contrast and colour, different systems have different color interpretation as well, be it JPEG or even when post processing.

Choose your own poison.

You can add an EF-M 22mm f2.0 from Ebay for about $150.

For me, I wanted access to cheap primes, and this system has an adapter that offers me this opportunity.

Think hard about what kind of photographer you want to be, how much flexibility you require and what budget you envisage spending on your kit to get the images you want.

Otherwise if budget is no issue, A7R II all the way man.

i think cameras now quality all quite clear de, they say it's in the lens tho.
i chose sony over samsung, coz sony has more lens options.

Samsung Mirrorless is not really compact heh.

No matter how good, it depends on the budget the buyer is willing to part with. Else the 2nd hand market is always flooded with them.

As for good and bad, well lens plays a big part, so does the sensor and final image processor.

Personally, for a lazy person like me, anything the comes out and looks like what I am looking, is good.

Doing post processing work is the last thing I want to do LOL.

Hehe Idk is it cause the Samsung mirrorless I was testing (borrowed from friend) is older model or what. But really feel like lose to my sony. When doing research to get my camera, just didn't like samsung.....

Considered olympus before also.. but somehow sony won me over hahah

Post processing is a kns. At most use Picasa edit a bit but also will do until wanna cry

I've been on Sony as long as I can remember.

frankly, camera brand is based on personal preference. Every one into photography would have sworn loyalty to a certain brand. In addition, we have invested heavily into the system (lenses, flashes, accessories etc) and it will be very expensive to switch brands.

So, no one can give u a better advise than urself. One thing to note is, check out the future roadmap. This will give u a feel of how much the manufacturer is going to support their line of products and how relevant your potential investments are going to be many years later

Moving on to your questions (take it with a pinch of salt though):
Sony is a good consideration. Sony has a range of full-frame mirrorless. For the non-full frame sector, the sensors are based on APS-C form factor. Sony has a lot to prove to stay competitive with the other manufacturers, who already have a big following. One strategy i can see is to heavily invest and innovate in the mirrorless sector. Hence, I believe we can look forward to many more innovations by Sony in the mirrorless arena

Consider the whole system and not just the camera & brand..

I was choosing either Sony or Olympus ... in the end i went for EPL-7 because of the m43 lens ...
