any negative impact to changing thermal paste in GPU?

As above..

Actually I have no reason to change the thermal paste of my current GPU (Galax 980ti HOF), just that I have spare arctic mx-4 lying around and my GPU doesn't have local warranty.

Just wondering if there is any negative impact, for example the default thermal paste in the GPU is supposed to be longer-lasting or something and if I change thermal paste I might end up having to change it more often?

Pardon me, all these based on assumption and self-induced thoughts lol.

you can replace thermal paste if it dry up. too much paste or too less also no good.
to keep it cool, just clean the heatsink, the fan and board monthly. your pc will last longer.

note: electric can pass through dust if too thick.

The stock compound is usually of poorer quality than those decent after market ones. In some cases, I've seen a decent reduction of a few degrees after change. Don't expect a dramatic change unless the old one is completely dried up.

I read somewhere that normal bicycle grease works well as thermal paste. Consider giving it a go if you want to experiment. :)

Downside is warranty void if seal sticker is affixed on the screw fasten the HSF.

as long as your gpu has no more local warranty, then it is wise to change the thermal paste as usually the default ones are bad..

Id say go for it, but be careful when doing it.

Did a repaste on my evga gtx 1080 using Liquid Metal.
My full load temperature now is at 50 Deg C (overclock 2107mhz) under water.

out of curiosity, are you using full custom loop system or an AIO off the shelf? if the latter, how does liquid metal reacts with the copper base plate?

thermal grizzly conductonaut is good, but not cheap.
I also like their copper thermal pads too.
Suitable for copper base heatsink only.
Bought a lot for my custom water cooling, laptop and upcoming pc too.

Im using a full custom loop full EK blocks and parts. I did open the blocks and you will some marks on the copper plate but there is no sign of oxidation after 4 months used.
There are some youtube video showing the copper base plate after using liquid metal for 6 months and there is no oxidation observe.

Try using mylar tape the next time you take off your waterblock, those normal cellophane tape's adhesive tend to melt when there's too much heat. :s12:

I did re-pasting of my laptop graphic card, cooler now by 5 degrees.
