Anybody using smart watches?

Thinking of buying a watch for replacement and happen to come across some smart watches. Some of the OEM ones are pretty cheap too!

Just to know if these watches are;-

1) Useful in anyway compared to traditional watches?
2) OEMs functions are the same compared to originals
3) Having better discounts in the coming IT show?

Useful, but depend on ur usage needs and patterns too. Most smartwatches now has the ability to show ur handphone notifications, track ur activity level (aka Fitbit), and customise the screen.

Take note of some restrictions of smartwatches, such as Android Wear devices, which only works for Android phones of certain firmware. And same for upcoming Apple watch.

Coming IT show may have deals for smartwatches from Samsung, Sony etc. Keep a Lok out for them.

I guess that's what I am worried about on compatibility. Thanks for the info, I will look out smart watches deals in the coming IT show.

i bought the free gift at $150 sealed lg g watch lg-w100 w100 but can stop receiving notifications. restarted it many times. weixin can send back voice messages only only if reply to message. whatsapp only can send back canned messages

So this can work with any BT enabled phones right? Any particular version of BT?

I think smartwatches are facing the same damn problem phones did before there was standardization through a common operating system like Android (ignore the fruit for the sake of discussion). You remember no matter how many cool features your latest (not-so-smart) phones had, they were always limited to the features you get when you buy. There were no apps to install, nothing common between manufacturers and the closest to having apps was the shitty Symbian OS.

If you look at the smartwatch arena today you kinda see the same thing. Some watches are just plain dumb, doing nothing more than recording some activities. Some have monochrome displays that show very limited things. Some go full blast but the battery only lasts for a day (which is highly unusual for a watch). And there's no standardization of OS, sure Android Wear comes close, but it's not there yet.

I would hold out on smartwatches as they are kind of in the "gimmick stage" right now.
