Anyone bought CPU+MB from SLS lately?

I saw from other threads that some stores are reluctant to sell parts separately, especially Ryzen CPUs as well as GPUs these days.

Has anyone bought just a CPU+MB from SLS lately? Do they still sell separately at around the retail price? I know they used to but it would save me a trip down if anyone has done the legwork recently.

I'm in dire need of an upgrade, my PC can't keep up with video editing anymore.

Just get it from amazon. I bought everything there except the gpu. Got a ryzen7 and gigabyte mobo. Cant stand the fact I have to negotiate or get ripped off at SLS.

Yeah was considering doing that until I found that Tradepacs prices even now are pretty damn competitive compared to Amazon. For example an i5 11400 and B460 motherboard is sub-$400, which is actually a bit less than a 10400 from Amazon and the same B460 motherboard off Lazada (for local warranty). If I can get effectively a free upgrade to a newer gen CPU, why not right?

CPU + mobo should be able to buy at retail price. Only GPU can't.

CPU if you can buy it from Amazon, then just get it from Amazon. It is usually cheaper, and in some cases, a lot cheaper. As for motherboard and GPU, if you can get online from say Shopee, Lazada or Qoo10, then get it from there. At least this is what I did. Otherwise, you can consider getting a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram upgrade for video editing.

Just be mindful of TradePac prices man. I recall the prices on the price list is not always what it seems, i.e. you need to buy the full system from them to get the price. Otherwise, it will cost more. That was their practice in the past, not sure about now since I have not gone down to SLS physically to buy a new system/ parts for many years now.

Yeah the thing is I’ll definitely need a new motherboard with a new CPU since the socket is different. Since I’m getting both then I qualify for bundle prices at SLS which brings the price down compared to getting them separately. I game on the system by day and then render videos overnight so I don’t think a Mac will really do for me at this point.

Yeah appreciate the advice, pre-pandemic I used to be able to get their listed prices no problem for one or two parts like MB, even if they +$15-$20 now for buying separately it still can be cheaper than Amazon for certain configs so was wondering if they even sell it separately. Saw a thread or two ago someone was told they don’t sell the Ryzen 3600 without a full system or something, which was one of the CPUs on my shortlist so I wanted to avoid a wasted trip down if that was true.

Yes. That's usually the case. I remember when I went down in Feb or Jan this year, the prices listed were if I bought the entire system, otherwise add extra cost.
