my old laptop suddenly cannot be on anymore

i mean i can get it to on, it has the on light, i hear the fan but it will auto shut off without showing anything.

is something wrong with the motherboard? is it still salvable?

If under warranty, bring back to Service centre.

If not, I suspect the following:
1) Motherboard BIOS lithium coin battery weak and/or your laptop main battery cannot hold charges.
The newer laptops BIOS uses the main battery.
2) Operating System corrupted/virus etc. If BIOS corrupted during an update and/or virus infected (unlikely), also gone case.
3) faulty laptop components like RAM, WIFI card, SSD/HDD, Fan, etc might be affecting the boot-up to BIOS.
4) Motherboard really gone case.
5) Display gone case (Unlikely). Hook up to another monitor/TV to check.

Bring to Sim Lim Sq for repair quotation...if laptop is more than 3 years, no point repair.
Buy new computer and extract your SSD/HDD data out to your new device.
