Anyone facing problems with Maverick??

Am using a 2010 MBP and i noticed the following problems/issues aftering updating to Maverick

1) Time Machine cannot backup.. Keep saying "Preparing for Backup" (its a external hard disk)

2) Apps opens slower (e.g. Preview when opening mail attachments)

3) "Search function" in Mail will only show a) all results thats AFTER the Maverick update, and b) selective results BEFORE the Maverick update.
However, if you scroll manually, all the results are there..

Please share what bugs or issues you encounter, and hopefully, solutions.

One problem I encountered is that whenever I open my Mail app, they keep asking me for my iCloud password. I thought I had set up my keychain already...

After the update, i encountered issues on:

1. Updating the iPhoto and iMovie - it says "updating" for ages that I lost my patience ;-)

2. Microsoft Word crashes when I open a document.

And since I was lazy to find a solution for each of these issues, and maybe time for a spring cleaning, I did a clean install using a USB drive.

Ok, found a solution to my problem with Mail app while searching the web:

1. Go to preference and open iCloud.
2. Uncheck Mail, and the re-check it.
3. Reopen Mail.
4. No more asking for password to my iCloud mail account.

Hope this helps others who have similar problem.

Two options:
A. Create a USB installer (if you want to deploy to multiple machines or keep for experiment hehe): This was what I did. I followed the instructions at

B. Install using Recovery Partition (if you have already installed Mavericks before on that machine), this was what my colleague did a while ago:

1. Reboot, hold the Alt button after the "boing" sound in order to display the boot options.

2. Select Recovery-10.9. This will display the OS X Utility menu.

3. Select Disk Utility. Select the drive for installation and erase it using the Erase option.

4. Exit Disk Utility. You will be brought back to the OS X Utility menu.

5. Choose Reinstall OSX and follow the instructions.

That's it. And yes, all your data will be wiped out. There are options to actually back them up and restore but I have never tried them.

i last time created the folder and tab with some colours. the whole folder will be highlighted with that colour (filename)

And I on the other hand hated the coloured filenames so much I never used it. Felt it was rather over the top, in your face, see-me-now.

omg.. In this case, I hav to live wif e flaws first till they issue another update.
cannot risk losing my 3yrs worth of data

And another issue is not due to Mac, but its about Parallels 7. Can't be used in OS X Mavericks and is forced to upgrade.

But other than that, the Finder Tabs are indeed useful! And one more minor issue for those who often change wallpapers. Finally, one can right click from the list of files in Finder and change wallpaper, rather than navigate to Settings.

But my major gripe is still Mission Control. Still prefer Expose and Spaces since I am using an iMac, and the large screen is useful to expose all the running documents...

Hot corners for Expose? Or the F3 button on the keyboard should work too.

I use the top right corner for Expose.
