firstly, maritime is not entirely about e-Commerce.
It can range:

- Oil & Gas trading
- Stocks/Indices - Baltic Index, Brend Blend, WTI (West Texas Intermediate), Dubai Crude
- Container trading
- Bulk trading (Iron ore, coal, wheat, grain)
- Timber trading

It is true maritime offers a large range of services including but not limited to:

- Palletisation,
- Warehousing,
- Ship chandling (food and necessities for seafarers),
- Ship brokering,
- Port agencies (nautical charts, tidal waves height, weather etc.)
- Pilotage
- Insurance (closely related to armed guards)
- Armed guards (if you sail to Somalia, etc and if your not covered under the Institute Warranty Limits, you need them for prevention of piracy)
- Ice-class ships
- Port registry (the place you register your flag for your ship)
- Classification societies (aka. IACS, famous ones are, Bureau Veritas, American Bureau of Shipping, Germaniser Llyod, Nippon Kaiji Kokai)

these are some of the things you're missing and this just what i can recall from my brain.

i suggest you look up; hellenic shipping news for all the information you need.

Our purposes for the project is to dig out whether a professional "networking" website can be setup in Singapore.

To our research so far, there is not a existence of such website.

To extend feasibility of idea, we need to collect some user data which represent the user activity in the website, and that is the whole meaning of this created landing page.

But just a question, will you be willing to use the website if lots of useful information which is helpful to you? and consider to suggest this to your colleagues who are the same marine-time professional as you?

there exists already, but people are more keen to use LinkedIn.
Most maritime professionals use that to network, say, like facebook for personal; albeit LinkedIn is more for professional to "show off" and "highlight their achievements". it serves as a loosely form of connection.

rather than sticking to facebook theory of just connections and sharing what you like.., you could bring out the idea of having a forum in your website to for Q&A (maritime queries).

lastly, maritime people do not actually connect online as per people's perception. they network in real life, be it through international forums or through the deals that they seal between companies.
Singapore Maritime Week is one of the many international exchanges that happen. many different international agencies organise different type of networking for their people. for instance:
- IMO - International Maritime Organisation
- BIMCO - Baltic & International Maritime Council Organisation
- SMOU - Singapore Maritime Officer's Union.

of course Singapore has their own maritime agenicies that you should be familiar with:
- PSA & MPA.

Nobody has actually quite done a "maritime-only" networking website, because, simple maritime is international. and you will have to cater in ALOT of factor's, including language.
